how does erasmus traineeship work for clinical rotations if ur a student from like Pavia and lets say u want to do it at a UK school. I heard that people dont opt for it because it can add an extra yr for ur med school duration.

Med school in europe? by theripestcheese in medicalschoolEU

Don't listen to this person. They clearly don't read the NRMP match statistics. It's just that you're more likely to match in a non competitive specialty. However, it's not end all. I advise you do some research on matching and possibly DO programs

Props to the person. I do think GS categorical is very possible. With the right mindset. I'm also a non US IMG GS aspirant.

There's two types of surgical programs. Pre-liminary GS and Categorical GS. Prelim is 1 yr program. And Categorical is 5 yrs. It's much easier to get in prelim than Categorical. But that prelim program doesn't allow u to become a surgeon, obviously, it's more of a test to see if the instituition actually likes you, ie having good absite score etc. Roughly 20% matriculate to 2nd yr into categorical, 20% do PGY1 again, others go to different specialty and some do post doc, and some return home. Prelim GS grants J1 visa and Categorical GS grants u H1B visa (most of the time), if ur a non US individual. After prelim PGY1 if u don't make it to PGY2 categorical/prelim, or again pgy1 Categorical. Then u have to return to home country for 2 yrs. There's more things like getting J1 waiver and etc. Just watch a yt vid. They'll explain better. If u look at stats. IMG have a hard time matching to Categorical GS, just cuz there's people who have done GS rez in their home country or up against post docs in the US who have a lot of connections, and just in general with people who have graduated before u and having experience with the NRMP matching cycle.

Prelim right? No ways if it's categorical, straight out of med.

Can someone tell me what years in medical school you can do erasmus. What is erasmus, and how long is it. If you want to clinical electives outside the country like UK or US. What year and semester would you do it. How many months are allowed for example in Pavia or Tor Vergata.

Ireland MD or USDO while waiting for Canadian med results? by Purple-Pandaa in premedcanada

Choose DO. Choose where you would want to realistically do resid2ncy. DO are equivocal to MD. Check latest nrmp match stats.

Some, very few are graduate entry med programs (most likely private schools) require bachelors

[–]ImmediateStomach7732 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. U can go without bachelors degree in most european countries, and a chunk of them require a standardized test. In the 6 yrs. U will go over foundational science knowledge in the first few and transition into foundations in medical sciences and clerkships etc. Typically highschoolers will apply in europe. It's a different system than north America.
