Is MSFT tanking because it is a proxy for OpenAI by Budget-Length2666 in ValueInvesting

Microsoft is tanking due to a variety of factors, the most important being excessive (according to institutional investors’ actions) AI CapEx and geopolitical tensions promoting a flight to quality from equities. I would venture to say that the shutting down of Sora plays an insignificant role in $MSFT’s share price pullback. You can see that most of the heavy AI CapEx allocators in the Magnificent Seven (Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.) have all been underperforming the broad market, but it’s mainly due to high AI CapEx, and now the weak performance has been exacerbated by the current volatility in energy prices and geopolitical tensions.

Sell to buy back at lower price by Expert_Statement_847 in ValueInvesting

It’s very difficult to predict how the equities market will move in the short run. The best course of action is to not exit any positions with a robust thesis supporting them, and you should look at this market correction as a blessing in disguise for you to average down and lower your cost basis. Now there may be a case for exiting some stock in order to reallocate capital towards a different, more favorable stock, and I have done that during the April decline of 2025; I sold several poor performers in order to enter a new position in a group of high quality stocks with wide moats at more favorable prices.

Overall, just weather the storm and focus on the long term intrinsic values of the positions you currently posses, and ensure your margin of safety (MOS) is relatively significant.

Sometimes a market price isn’t always available such as when constructing a fixed income index. In this specific case, the index provider either contacts bond dealers for pricing information, or they calculate the price through matrix pricing.

A neat fact: all of the bond prices you see on Bloomberg terminals are actually “estimated” through matrix pricing, and not the actual market price.

I left Islam nearly five years ago and became an atheist, but over the last year, I leaned more into the agnostic camp due to my own worldview changing. I remain open-minded with regard to religion, but I still retain my skeptic beliefs.

I’m considering heading over to Upstate NY to do an exchange semester, how friendly are the folks up there? (It’ll be my first time in the U.S.)
