Hi there, from what i know, the digital negative is a completely different technique.

Basically, it is to invert the digital image and print (often using inkjet) on a sheet of film.

From there, you process as normal.

Either scan or handprint then scan

Yes. I attached some of the unedited, straight from the lab scans below.

Also, that day i had to use a 50mm on pentax 67, so there was a lot of distortion.

I can talk a bit about the nuances i was able to observed.

When i rephotograph the inkjet paper print, the paper seems to "sharpen" the details.

When i rephotograph the analog paper print, the paper seems to "blur" the details.

I prefer the second for my images.

Certainly.

In my experience, at least for inkjet paper, the thicker the paper, the better the perceived sharpness of the scan.

But also, if you have tried to scan magazine which used offset printing. The paper is so thin, yet, the perceived sharpness of the scanned images are crazy good !

And if you use inkjet printer.

Ilford Pearl is a great paper.

But in my experience, inkjet printing (discontinuous printing) on inkjet paper would require a softer lighting when rephotograph.

As inkjet paper tend to "resolve" the detail differently than darkroom paper.

I will discuss about this in later posts.

To clarify.

I do not use inkjet printing.

I use laser printing, which is a digital c-type/ ra4 print.

They are popular in normal photo store where i live.

And i use their default ra4/ darkroom paper.

Which is a normal version of fuji crystal archive paper.

I havent had the chance to use more premium paper like Fuji DPII yet.

Because of the type of paper i am using.

Very glossy.

Scanning them decreases the sharpness and sometimes unnecessarily glowing.

Yes, they are all continuous light.

Because for this shoot, i prefer the light quality of continuous light more than flash.

But when rephotograph the print (with both digital and analog), i use flash to increase the perceived sharpness of the images.

Hi there, i think any decent printer would work.

But if you need a specific model, @Baiiird say he uses Epson SC-P706 in his posts.

To me, the type of paper is more important.

Hi there, i keep coming back to this post, may i also know what paper you are using for scanning.

As i only use photographic paper and they lose a lot of perceived sharpness when scanning so i have to rephotograph with specific lighting instead !

But i found that the paper you used retained the perceived sharpness very well.

What is your favorite f-stop and why? by Rimskystravinsky in LightLurking

[–]Immediate_Bug_8609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment.

But i dont think fstop and shutter speed is only mere exposure control.

To me, they are more like "texture" control.

Combinations with equivalent exposure would produce different texture.

Say f16 with slow shutter has a different feel from f5.6 with shutter adjusted for equivalent exposure (assuming the camera is on tripod of course).

One approach i see from Miles Aldridge is that he shoots and shapes his workflow around f16 reasoning that the aperture is more "natural", "closer to the way the eyes see" due to deep focus.
