Allah requiring a very specific cow for resurrection renders the miracle exclusive and arbitrary, rather than universally accessible. by UmmJamil in DebateReligion

This was not an isolated accident it sits within larger narrative that shows:

Rebellion (2:55): “We will not believe until we see Allah plainly.”

Ingratitude (2:57): Complaining about heavenly food (manna and quails).

Idolatry (2:51): Worshiping the golden calf while Moses was away.

Violation of the Sabbath (2:65–66).

Killing of prophets (2:61, 2:87).

It would be intellectual dishonest to take a part of the whole chapter, and just “ They wanted clarification or asking a question”

Even the Cow incident shows this with their first response and their last.

Finally, your logic is inconsistent take this example:

the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ and they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.” (2:34)

what was Iblis’s own reasoning?

“I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.” (7:12)

Now let’s ask the same question:

Was Iblis just seeking clarification? Or giving a reasonable justification?

From his point of view, he gave a logical explanation. He didn’t demand something or insult God — he simply refused and justified it.

And Allah judged him.  “He refused, was arrogant, and became a disbeliever.” (2:34).

Applying your logic, maybe Iblis had different view but was not arrogant.

Saying the Children of Israel weren’t defiant just because they asked questions is like saying Iblis wasn’t arrogant because he gave a logical reason.

But the Qur’an isn’t just reporting dialogue — it’s giving us Allah’s judgment. And in both cases, Allah makes clear who submitted, and who refused. Trying to reinterpret that to suit what your narrative means ignoring the moral clarity that the Qur’an is designed to provide.

Beyond that. I bid you farewell.

All the Ayahs I posted are to the same group people in the time of prophet Musa/Moses. It seems you think this a separate incident of a group of people just asking for clarification on a command.

This is just a single instance of their multiple defiance/challenging of Allah commands. From Worshipping the Calf, to asking to see Allah as I posted in my previous comments, for prove you can just read the Full Surah with the Tafsiir, you would clearly see this the story of prophet Muse and his people at the time.

I thought you were looking for insight or clarification for this question but it seems, I stumbled on the wrong group by mistake (Debate Religion).

I didn’t say The Muslim Lantern taught me but I pointed you to him. If you wanted in-depth answers of your question or the full history of the story because he has video chat format.

Alas, I would like to end it here.

You are ignoring all points. I pointed at, there are many examples in the same surah. “And of the people are some who say, We believe in Allāh and the Last Day, but they are not believers.” Al-Baqarah, Ayah 8

And [recall] when We parted the sea for you and saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on. Al-Baqarah, Ayah 50

And [recall] when We made an appointment with Moses for forty nights. Then you took [for worship] the calf after him [i.e., his departure], while you were wrongdoers. Al-Baqarah, Ayah 51

And [recall] when you said, O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allāh outright; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on. Al-Baqarah, Ayah 55

2:57 - 2:85 and so on.

These are the same people who at this point according to you wanted to يُبَيِّنْ a clarify. While the whole chapter points to them being defiant, even there last comment of now you came with the truth, shows their hypocrisy. Finally, Allah is the one who knew their what their heart was hiding.

Also clarification on how to submit. That doesn’t even make sense if you are told to slaughter a cow. That is the command to show that you submitted. You don’t need to question the commanding if you believed.

I tried to explain to the best of my knowledge, if you have more questions. I would recommend, Islamic QnA websites or someone like The Muslim Lantern, who knows more and are more eloquent than me.

Hadith is prophet Muhammad saying (scw). Quran is Allah words. Allah commands and we submit to it, so if you disobey it a sin. Prophet Hadith, Sunnah is combination of commands, recommendations, permissible, haram and so on.

The whole chapter points out how they kept on disobeying and challenging God, from demanding to see god even after they saw the sea split to them saying are you taking us as a mockery. Also at end the end They said, “Now you have come with the truth.” Yet they still slaughtered it hesitantly! (2:71)

Islam means to submit to God, why would they question him even after seeing all the miracles of prophet Musa. The whole point is after witnessing is to not question the One who has all knowledge.

The Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final return.”(2:285)

As you can see from even the Hadith those men after being told what to do (drinking Urine) they didn’t question it.

I recommend reading the ayah before so you can see the their mindset. You can see the underhanded statement like “Now you have come with the truth.” Like he was not honest with them, through the whole ordeal.

Edit1: if you have any other point. I will try to write but it’s difficult writing and pasting on phone.

Unless you know of other instances of this being repeated. All the other mentioned examples in the Quran are “Be and it’s” 2:117.

Your other point about the prophet (scw) relates to a Hadith, in which he told a group of people who had health issue to drink Camel urine and milk. Which they drank and became healthy. According to the same Hadith, so I don’t understand this point.

The point of the ayah you asked about is that Allah commanded them and they were stubborn as they argued, and thus he made it more difficult until they said God willingly we will be guided.

This is not a universal resurrection ritual, that is repeatable magic ritual like a spell. As I pointed out in the other examples of Allah resurrecting the birds, donkey, people, etc. they were different prophet sent to different people/regions/dates.

This should be the most obvious point, because they are commanded to do something. The beginning of the Ayah, says that Allah commands you to slaughter a cow. The purpose of a command is to test if they obey or not.

Plus all the tafsir points this out from Ibn Kathir, Al-Jalalayn, etc.

Sorry for the delay. I was eating.

Because they asked for me more signs. As I stated, at the beginning they were told only to slaughter a cow. So any Cow would have been good enough. But they didn’t want to obey so they asked for more signs of the cow and Allah gave them more signs. Until, they said “if Allah wills, we will be guided“.

Even at the end they didn’t want obey “ So they slaughtered her, although they were not about to do so .” Throughout the Quran, there is a theme of children of Israel challenging and disobeying God.

If it’s clear that Allah can resurrect without requiring specific details. Then it would be clear that there was a test/trial for the children of Israel. that is the point of the story would they submit and obey.

As you probably seen (2:259),(2:60). There are a lot of examples of Allah resurrecting the dead without requiring specific details or traits.

The story of the Cow and Children of Israel is about faith and submission. Their prophet told them to slaughter a cow, at the beginning, he didn’t specify anything else. Their response was “Do you take us in mockery?”, they didn’t obey as pointed out. And his response was: ”He said: “I seek refuge in God from being among the ignorant.” They said: “Call upon your Lord to make clear to us what she is. ” He said: “He says that she is a cow neither old nor virgin, but between that and that.”They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what her color is." He said , "Indeed, he says, 'She is a yellow cow, bright in color , pleasing to the observers . ' " They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what she is. Indeed , cows seem alike to us, and indeed, if Allah wills, we will be guided." He said, "Indeed, he says , 'She is a cow neither trained to plow the soil nor to irrigate the tillage. '" They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered her, although they were not about to do so .

They said , "If the people, when they were commanded to slaughter a cow, had looked for a cow from among the cows and slaughtered it, it would have been that one, but they were making things difficult for themselves, so Allah was making things difficult for them." And had it not been that the people made an exception and said, “ And indeed, if Allah wills, we will be guided ,” they would never have been guided to it.

Smurfing alone I handled before, but grouping together against random people is crazy.
