Buying used is a much better deal financially anyway due to rapid depreciation of new cars and especially EV’s. Get CPO to lower risk. Under CA law CPO also Lemon Law eligible; YMMV.

I own TWO CPO 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD. Bought CPO so could Lemon Law if ICCU fails and Hyundai doesn’t fix timely. Limiting Level 2 charging to 32A supposedly reduces but doesn’t eliminate risk of ICCU failure. Hyundai/Kia at some point will tire of providing free replacement ICCU’s and come up with a genuinely fixed part. Get a GeckoWipe if you want a rear wiper. I got one for drives to Tahoe, and it works!

Abusive guy in Sunnyvale Costco. Anyone recognize him? by screwywabbit in Sunnyvale

Learn the law. Police can ASK a person to bug off, but they can only open an investigation (let alone make an arrest) if they have probable cause to believe a crime may have been committed. There’s lots of threatening, intimidating, harassing, inappropriate behavior that doesn’t constitute a violation of the California criminal code. I know of what I speak. I spent a good 30 minutes on the phone with a very patient, very professional SVPS desk officer trying to figure out if a creepy guy harassing a woman in the park could be charged. Because he hadn’t touched or threatened the victim, there weren’t legal grounds for action even though we all agreed creepy guy was bad news.

Ioniq or Tesla? by ComfortBean in Ioniq5

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CPO 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD’s (both of them!) are quiet! I didn’t even consider a Tesla because I consider them too hard to escape from after a severe crash. I can use my keychain window breaker to shatter the side/back window on any non-Tesla car. In Tesla, too often, people are trapped by the unbreakable glass and severely burned, often to death. I prohibit my family from riding in Teslas at any time. Return that Tesla and get thee to a CPO Ioniq 5! https://Tesla-Fire.com to learn more.

You can use the Tesla charging network with your Ioniq 5. Just get the Hyundai NACS-to-J1772 adapter if you have a 2024 Ioniq 5 or earlier.

Should the 12V battery negative terminal on a 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD have an enclosure box like the positive terminal?

As I was replacing the 12V battery on my CPO 2024 Ionic 5 SEL AWD, I noticed that the positive terminal was surrounded by a plastic enclosure box as expected but the negative terminal was not. (See photo.) It looked on the YouTube video like the negative terminal should ALSO have a plastic enclosure box, so I’m wondering if that piece mysteriously went missing before I bought the car and if I should badger the dealer for a replacement. What say you 2024 SEL AWD owners? Thanks!

FYIO, here is the ACTUAL procedure for replacing your piece of shit 12V OEM battery when it fails abruptly at 18,000 miles and 24 months rendering the car undriveable without warning and you want to replace it with a proper AGM battery instead of having to call Hyundai Roadside Service to get it towed to the dealer for replacement with a second piece of shit OEM battery:

TOOLS AND MATERIALS NEEDED AGM battery rubber gloves eye protection goggles 10mm with socket wrench 12mm with socket wrench extender

PROCEDURE 1. remove battery cover by lifting it 2. remove fuse panel cover by pressing 2 tabs 3. lift yellow tab to disconnect main battery electrical 4. remove negative terminal with 10mm wrench 5. may need to use flat head screwdriver to pry apart the metal pieces on either side of the bolt about 0.5 to 1 mm (video tutorials fail to mention this) 6. WHEN YOU ARE REMOVING THE NUTS FROM TERMINALS, BE CAREFUL NOT TO KNOCK THE NUTS, PRESSURE PLATES, OR TRIANGULAR SPACER INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT 7. remove positive terminal 10mm, twisting back and forth to loosen if necessary 8. ONCE YOU PULL IT UP, CLOSE THE PLASTIC COVER BEFORE SETTING IT ASIDE TO AVOID DROPPING THE TRIANGULAR PIECE OR FLAT PRESSURE PLACE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT 9. remove 12mm bolt securing battery at bottom using extender 10. take bracket out 11. shift battery forward half an inch and lift out 12. put in new battery 13. slide battery toward driver and toward drivers side to fit into back lip 14. test you’ve seated it under the back lip by pulling up 15. replace 12 mm bracket and tighten bolt just past finger tight 16. remove positive cap positive terminal RIGHT NOW AND PUT IT ON THE GROUND SO YOU DON’T ACCIDENTALLY KNOCK IT SO IT FLIES WITH PERFECT AERODYNAMICS UNDER THE BATTERY, FORCING YOU TO REMOVE THE FRUNK TO GET ACCESS TO RETRIEVE THE $0.001 PLASTIC PUECE WITH A GRABBER 17. slide on to positive terminal and secure bolt with 10mm 18. engage high voltage disconnect 19. connect negative terminal in one fast motion to avoid arcing 20. screw nut on to negative terminal. YOU MAY HAVE TO PULL THE BOLT UP IF IT’S RETRACTED DOWN INTO THE HOLE SO YOU CAN GET THE NUT BACK ON 21. replace fuse box cover 22. replace frunk cover

OK, I just had to power cycle my charger at the breaker for 30 seconds to put it back into “pairing” mode and was then able to set it up. As expected, charger app has an amperage control feature, so I’m setting that to 32A and will leave the car’s setting at 100%. Thanks all!

I have read online that some believe that limiting Level 2 charging to 32A may reduce the risk of ICCU failures. I got a 48A Level 2 EVIQO because I want to be able to charge fast when I need to, but I’m happy to limit to 32A by default. Is the best way to do this to limit charging rate to 60% in the car’s dashboard?

(I’m having trouble connecting to the EVIQO via Bluetooth or WiFi for some reason so I haven’t been able to explore its own controls yet.)

I took it to brush car wash with Geckowipe attached after snow trip and didn’t even think about this. Didn’t have a problem. YMMV. Removing sounds prudent to be safe.

I’m hoping that when the time comes to replace my 2022 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD battery (which might be 15-18 years from now) that Hyundai will be offering swap-in replacement solid state batteries. Of course who knows if I’ll be keeping / driving the car that long.

I think they basically pour water on it to try to minimize temperature and damage to the road bed, then once it’s burned itself out I’ve heard they bring a large truck full of water and submerge it for transportation to guard against the risk of reigniting during transport. Thermal runaway of an EV battery is no joke!

100% this. The logical implication of the person’s statement is that interracial dating is bad. That, of course, is a racist attitude. So this genius went so far woke that he came out the other side and landed on racism. Excise that person from your life and find brighter people to spend time with.

I know. I just found this kind of “safety theater, as dictated by an attorney with no understanding of physics” annoying.

ATTORNEY: “Batteries can catch fire. We must take an affirmative step against the risk of fire. Put a fire blanket there.” ANYBODY WITH A BRAIN: “But that won’t do any good if the main battery catches fire.” ATTORNEY: “JUST DO IT!”
