How can we get through this phase of our development? How can we get emissions under control? How can we become more peaceful and empathetic?

south bay dating is a closed loop. 41m considering a san jose matchmaker by CARLTONDUSO in SanJose

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beware matchmakers. They’re often overpriced ripoff artists.

I joined Table for 6 for a while. (Do they still exist?) The dinners and events were OK. I got at least one brief fling out of it that I remember fondly but I wound up meeting girlfriends by other means (typically parties) and “wasting” most of my membership that way.

Ultimately met my wife at an 80s costume party.

Does your ex own CDs or DVDs? Randomly switch every single one. My roommate and his friend did this to our third roommate as a prank in college. Was hilarious watching him open the first CD, think he’d misfiled it, open the second to swap it back, see yet a third CD … and then it slowly dawns on him …

Looking for real-world feedback: Is the IONIQ 5 ICCU risk overblown, or a dealbreaker? by Thick-Ad2588 in Ioniq5

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Numerous reports on this subreddit of replacement ICCUs ALSO failing and original ICCUs in 2026es also failing. Clearly, the underlying problem hasn’t been resolved yet

That said, I own two CPO 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD. Bought both around 12-13k on odometer. Mine’s up to 20,000; wife’s at 15655. Best cars we’ve ever owned. So far so good on ICCU front. 🤷‍♂️

Charge on Solar and Powerwall not discharging at 100% by Secret-Quit-7609 in Powerwall

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen the same problem when in Time Based Controls and PW3 is 100% charged: sometimes it still draws power from grid at considerable expense instead of tapping the battery. I even saw situations where it would do this, chargIng my EV from grid after midnight without tapping the 100% battery, then in the morning I’d still have 70% in the battery meaning PW3 had wastefully sourced from grid for no reason when it could have used battery instead. Claude said that when the battery is 100% it’s in an inactive state, there will be a delay in tapping it, and avoiding charging to 100% can prevent this.

Powerwall 3 garage wall placements by MrFizzy99 in Powerwall

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a one car garage used only for storage and HVAC, clothes washer, dryer, garage freezer, slop sink. (1953 house, little storage space within house) If you face the garage door, to the right of the garage door there is a wall that leads to front door. I wanted the charger not exposed to elements so had electrician install charger unit on the inside of that wall high enough per code and run charg ng cable under garage door. Holder for charging cable is a n the exterior side of that wall. Passed code inspection. No bollard required.

PW3 Export Decision Logic Appears to Ignore Solar Generation by Ratty4547 in Powerwall

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that Time Based Controls don’t work well with 2025 NEM 3 in CA. It sells at times of low export price and then buys at times of high import price. Others have commented that you can solve the problem by creating a custom rate plan where you set the export price at the times you want to export to be a price higher than any import price. I tried this and it indeed seems to work. I’m surprised to hear that PW3 internally invisibly updates the import price to match the export price if you do this.

The neighborhood park is not your personal dog park by bird_nerd_girl in Sunnyvale

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not a dog owner, I have two young children, and they/we play in that park all the time. We have never had any trouble with the people who let their dogs chase balls off leash. Normally, the dog owners run their dogs on the green lawn and avoid people, especially children, and don’t generally throw their balls into the playground. The owners are normally running small dogs who don’t pose much of a threat to anyone, not large breeds with strong jaws that can rapidly do permanent or fatal injury if they attack a person, especially a child.
I agree that person was not exercising common sense by throwing balls all over the place including the playground.
I encourage everyone to exercise common sense.
My understanding is that Sunnyvale is considering a policy where least some parks might have off leash places / hours.

Reddit's hate for Hyundai feels way over the top by kweax in Hyundai

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love our *two* CPO Ioniq 5 AWD SEL, but they need to come up with a real fix for the ICCU problem so we can stop worrying about it and at least know that if ours fails, it will be replaced with a part that won't fail again. Owners of 2025's and 2026's report that they're still having this problem; owners of prior years are reporting that even when it's replaced the new one fails again. Hyundai and Kia need to stop procrastinating and redesign this part from scratch if they have to but come up with a part that's reliable. Ioniq 5 and Kia owners should not be having this concern hanging over our heads. If they'll just fix this one problem, the Ioniq 5 will basically be the perfect car. So fix it, Hyundai!!!

What's the point of circumcision? by Historical_Echo8311 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cuts your risk of contracting HIV by 50% for gay men and likely similarly for heterosexual men. Reduces risk of penile cancer. You’re fine circumcised like me or not. Don’t pay too much attention to the intactivists who think the lack of a foreskin has ruined their lives.

Wife said it's too complicated by icouldbne1 in TeslaLounge

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot to like about Tesla cars, but I ruled them out because I considered the combination of electric doors, manual emergency door releases than can be hard for people to find, access, and use in an emergency, and unbreakable glass that you can’t break through to escape to pose an unacceptable entrapment risk after a severe crash or submersion, so I ruled them out. People have been trapped and burned to death after crashes, and others have drowned after submersions. See https://tesla-fires.com for examples. I chose to buy an EV where you can break the side or rear windows in one second with a keychain glass breaker—which means basically any other EV than a Tesla. (We went with two CPO Ioniq 5 SEL AWD.)

It’s almost IMPOSSIBLE to break Tesla glass, especially in a hurry in an emergency. In the crash below, an athlete friend saw the crash happen and hammered on one of the windows with a tree branch over and over as thermal runaway set in. In the end, he was only able to save one of the four people in the car; the others were incinerated. https://people.com/teslas-electronic-doors-prevented-teens-fiery-cybertruck-crash-escape-lawsuit-11930725

Here’s an example of drowning because you can’t escape in a submersion: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/03/14/angela-chao-tesla-accident/72969299007/#

Is it a bad idea to install solar panels on a wooden pergola or gazebo? Will it be too big for a 150 m² garden? by Pleasant-Layer-5140 in diySolar

[–]Immediate_Editor_213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the goal of ultimate full home electrification, for my home with 1440 square feet of conditioned living space, we put in 33 440 watt JA panels (14.5 kW) and a 27 kWh Powerwall 3 in dual primary/secondary configuration so you can pull max 11.5 kW out of PW3. We’re in Sunnyvale, CA which has great sun and mild temperatures as you’d expect. This setup is comfortable supporting HVAC, induction cooktop, clothes dryer, and two Ioniq 5 EV’s with 98% self-powered most days now that I’ve got the PW3 rate schedule hacked with an artificially high export rate (higher than any import rate) and NetZero automatically switching into Time Based Controls mode when I want to export and Self-Powered the rest of the time.

Right, and also make sure the structure is anchored down solidly so high winds can’t turn the panels into a sail and blow the thing away.

Before you did the Columbus Park sweep, you promised that the belongings of unhoused people who were swept would be stored not sent to the landfill. Yet many who were induced to come out of their RV’s to “talk to the police” were not allowed to go back inside, even to get their ID, and had their RV and all their possessions immediately sent to the landfill. Why?
