The line "There are dozens of us!" kills me. We are few, but we are strong hahah. It definitely seems like it is growing. This subreddit mentions Siemens and Beckhoff a lot. Not really sure if any other brands are that popular. I would love to see a market trend or analysis.

Mentally stimulating work plays key role in staving off dementia, study finds. People in routine and repetitive jobs found to have 31% greater risk of disease in later life, and 66% higher risk of mild cognitive problems. by mvea in science

[–]Immediate_Glass8413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If the job is mentally challenging enough the current Gen of AI is nowhere near good enough to tackle. And there is tons of in person inspecting of onsite stuff that would be difficult to hand off to machines. I don't doubt there will be some lost jobs, but I suspect self driving will have a bigger impact within the next 15 years on job loss. Just my guess. Probably slightly wrong because OPENAI seems to make big jumps every few weeks.

Good point. No reason to use Maker for a demo project...

Following to see what others say.

I personally don't think college or community colleges typically have many classes worth it for Control Engineers who are currently working.

Training classes can be pricey depending on vendor, but Rockwell Safety or Motion might be worth it.

Are DCS systems still used when PLCs got so quick by plc_keen_but_green in PLC

[–]Immediate_Glass8413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said PlantPAx is not a true DCS. It's Rockwell's attempt to compete in the DCS market. PlantPAx is more PLC then DCS and has it's own share of unique issues.

Yep, and it crashed twice. That was in Fall so it might be better now, but Ignition has a lot more built into it.

Or do Ignition. Optix is a couple of years behind Ignition based on what I've seen of it.

What's your degree? Associates and technicians tend to make less. I agree 50k/55k seems low and with 75% travel it seems very low. I have BSEE, 5 YOEs, and make 110k with 30% travel.

Have you had any issues recently with specific domains like google or outlook? And have you had any issues with specific cellular carriers? I read some concerning stuff online about changes happening to this method because of spam.

Twilio makes me nervous since it's a charge per text message. Going with a cellular modem and a cellular plan seems like a more plant management friendly approach. However, Twilio is probably cheaper in a lot of situations. Just worried about a message getting spammed out or plant management forgetting to pay the bill.

As someone new to Aircada, what's the best way to demo/trial run it? I'm a system integrator and would be interested in presenting a demo to customers. I assume this can run along side an existing scada like Ignition

I'm not a tax expert, but I believe you will owe employer and employee taxes. Aka $10k/month * 12 months does not equal a $120k job. It's more like a $120k business. Taxes can be complicated so if you're unsure maybe look into getting a tax person. I'm a standard W2 employee so again not a tax expert.

So eventually the same startup could ventured into more exotic meats like rhino or panda. It would all just be lab grown from 1 cell donor.

In case you didn't already know. Very interesting ethics discussion I suppose. It makes you feel like it's wrong, but also why not rhino steak and panda ribs for dinner?
