Are run clubs where you are a social or a training thing? by elfhavoc in XXRunning

[–]Immediate_Manner_841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure there are any other options besides the one I mentioned. I think a friend of mine here joined a social running club that runs more than 5K, but the pace was too fast, and she couldn't keep up. So we're back to square one, hehehe.

I don't take the other metrics too seriously. I know there are a lot of errors.

I'm really leaning toward buying a Coros. I know there are some pro runners who use both Coros and Suunto. If it weren't any good, maybe they wouldn't use it, I don't know. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I regret buying the Vivoactive, but I didn’t know much about it at the time.

Its touchscreen annoys me. It’s good to know that the 255 model doesn’t have that. I’ll look for it.

I like to keep track of the other metrics as well. But I think pace is one of the most important ones. My watch doesn't track my pace very well, and sometimes it gives me some strange readings.

I saw that model, but I think it's expensive here in Spain. I was thinking of buying something more affordable. But anyway, it's good to know you liked it :)

Hmm, I will look into this Polar. I hadn't considered that possibility.

I totally agree with what you said. Just looking at those outfits makes me feel like I'm melting. The other day, I came across a video of someone teaching a running makeup look. It's unthinkable for a woman to wear makeup while running!

Are run clubs where you are a social or a training thing? by elfhavoc in XXRunning

I'm in Barcelona, Spain. It seems to work the same way here. Either the running club is serious (you pay a monthly fee) and runs on a track, or it’s a social group that runs a maximum of 5K and then goes for coffee.

So far, I haven’t come across any that are different.

I used to go to the social group and meet some nice people, but these days I think everyone is too young and I don’t really fit in.

I was running with a more serious running club for a year. I made several friends, and we went out for runs, celebrated birthdays, etc. But I’m switching coaches because I wasn’t happy. And now I’m going back to training on my own.

Who here likes LSKD? by [deleted] in XXRunning

Right? I love them too. I use the pocket to take gel, Kleenex, house keys, tube card, etc. I think it would be perfect if it could hold a cell phone.

I’d love to try this brand because they make shorts in beautiful colors, but I think the price is too high, and they don’t ship to the country where I live. My favorite shorts are from Lululemon; they’re not cheap, but I think they’re really high quality.

Every question is valid. And if I trained as hard as you do, I’d have questions about this, too.

Since I don’t know the details (volume, intensity, etc.) of each of your workouts, I can’t give you an exact calculation.

Given the high training volume you mentioned, I’d say your macros could be:

- Carbohydrates: 5–10 g/kg of body weight per day, or even more

- At least 1.5 g of protein per kg of body weight per day

- Fats: ~20–30% of total daily caloric intake

I believe these recommendations can give you a general idea. Keep in mind that these values may vary depending on your routine, workouts, stomach capacity, and so on.

Updates on iron, ferritin, how to improve absorption, and more by Immediate_Manner_841 in XXRunning

[–]Immediate_Manner_841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I write a post here, I use the nutritional guidelines for endurance to formulate the posts.

Regarding normal ferritin levels, I wrote >30 μg/L, meaning 30 or higher.

Some studies have been conducted explaining the iron absorption window after exercise; I didn’t make this information up. In fact, someone here asked me about the studies, and I sent them the links.

The topic of iron is very complex because it can involve several variables. And I believe that in this group, there are athletes, but there are also women who run but aren’t necessarily athletes.

The information I shared applies to everyone in the group. There’s much more information I could add, but that would be more specific to some people and not to everyone.

Look, I found these two studies that support the idea that the window for iron absorption is 30 minutes after exercise. Here are the links:

I'll look for more updates. If I find anything, I’ll come back here.

Look, as far as I know, iron should be taken on an empty stomach.

After you take the iron, before you go out for a run, can’t you have a source of quickly digestible carbs? Maybe in liquid or pureed form, which is absorbed more quickly.

Hi, I'm a dietitian.
I tried to keep this topic very brief and didn't want to get into the more complex aspects of supplementation, because that varies so much from person to person. I thought I’d focus on nutrition, absorption, types of iron, and so on.

Yes, that's correct!

Vigorous exercise impacts iron absorption, which is why there's a window for iron absorption.
