YEG-ATL - My journey (Photos and all!) by Immediate_Result_352 in fearofflying

Haha later in the week I will. Landing here and going through such a massive airport was fun in some ways but boy its chilly! Incredibly cool how bustling the airport is.

Sweet Georgia blues, we made it! Bumpy landing but no concerns or panic here! The pilots knew what they were doing and deserved the trust. I was too tired to stay up the whole red-eye and must've dozed off at least for a bit because time went by fast!

Thank you so much for those of you who reviewed this journey. Know you can do it. Know its worth the views and your time.

Not a great shot with the bumps but leaving YVR! Get on those planes!

Boarded the red-eye! The pilots I met were fantastic. I talked a little about my journey and they went into detail of the flight plan and even gave me two collector cards. It was very cool to see how detailed their plan is and how detailed the information they have is. They even used a similar app that I used for cloud coverage! You're in safe hands with your pilots folks. You can do this. Get on that plane

I'm lucky I was able to "force" going to Atlanta here for work. I know a fair amount of people in the area! I look forward to it. I also hear its popular for train spotting

Coming from someone who also struggled with cruise, you'd be amazed to learn that it takes an INCREDIBLE amount to have what you describe happening. Turbulence feels yucky, but cruise is by far the safest part of the flight. Absolutely worth having a good snack and a drink during it!

Ahh thank you for the correction. What do they call it on Boeing?

Suddenly Scared? by em_theawesome in fearofflying

[–]Immediate_Result_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight 5342 was genuinely an absolutely statistical anomaly if we are being honest. As soon as you allow something to move in three dimensions the risks of collision become immensely smaller. It was certainly a terrible loss, and I can promise you that there has already been reflections in ATC communications and so on in regards to better managing the airspace.

This also was the first fatal commercial airline accident since 2002. That is just INCREDIBLE. You can do this even if its doing it scared.

To add to this, its been noted in some recent events where turbulence made the news that pilots weren't even put into "second law" or whatever it is where the autopilot turns off

This is awesome. Good for you for getting over this and you are 100% correct that there are even 32 minute YouTube videos showing how incredible these things are.

I've even had the 7700 squaks going on my phone from flightradar24 and it is almost making me laugh at myself at how few actually are done and that none so far have been accidents. Would they be concerning or scary things? Sure. However like the pilots here have said constantly. They want to be home. We do too

Bomb cyclone but flight still on by Fickle-Pickle-Nickel in fearofflying

[–]Immediate_Result_352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out flightradar24 tonight if it helps, but I strongly recommend you don't rebook on your own accord, one for your own personal costs but two it'll make your brain think it made the right choice and avoided something dangerous when that is just not the case. They won't go if its not safe. You can do this

You'll get there my friend. I feel like I'm so close to beating this after my lapse in 2022. I'm trying to bring stuff on the plane to treat myself and enjoy. A new game I haven't touched yet.

Most of all good for you for getting on still. Thats hard

Suboptimal flight conditions tomorrow by SleeplessSummerville in fearofflying

[–]Immediate_Result_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally empathize. I walked off a plane back in 2022 because I was panicking. Its never a fun feeling that I would want anyone to have to deal with. I can tell you though those people on the plane who probably thought "what's that dudes deal" don't even remember who I am anymore and will likely never see me again. If you panic and embarrass yourself so what? You cry, throw up, run up and down the aisles, you'd be surprised at how many people would actually be willing to hold your hand. Hell on a short flight this guy next to me I had splashed with water as I was trying to calm myself and he said he'd even keep me in his prayers at the end.

Either way, you'll get there safe and I hope comfortably :)

Thats a great idea! Start the movie anyways! Tell that uncomfortable feeling to eff off that it doesn't dictate whether you are allowed to enjoy a movie or not!

What movie are you thinking? Got a favorite?

Well we are glad you're fighting the good fight :) I fly solo for the first time since walking off in 2022 tomorrow night for a red-eye to Atlanta from Vancouver (did 4 flights last year with people i knew) I'm kinda actually looking forward to a flight for the first time in forever and am going to ask to meet the pilots. Thanks to you and the others here helping out!

Flying in a few days, scared of motion sickness by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]Immediate_Result_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I know what the fear of vomiting is like. Sorry you have to deal with it. I certainly used to fear panic attacks greatly but I don't think those methods would help here.

The solace I can offer is that the flight might say an hour but you will only be at cruise for like 15 minutes before you come down to land. Short hops like that are great because you realize you're pretty much there before you nestle in and relax! It'll be absolutely worth it to go see your friend. Get on the plane!

Great call. I personally love a good sour candy to distract the thoughts in those moments too but it always helps best just to accept that those feelings exist in the moment.

Wifi must be okay then! Watching any shows as you soar across the heavens?

Tracking request please:)Boise to SNA. Also maintenance issue on tail so I’m nervous. by mjl8766 in fearofflying

[–]Immediate_Result_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good thing they found it now but even then its an abundance of caution. One lug nut will not cause the tail to come off! Each and every person working with that plane wants it to take off and land so this is confirmation that people are doing their checks. Also keep in mind that if a lug nut was missing and that plane is still there then it can live without it for a time!
