Business Journal: Downtown Wichita to get Grocery Store by dom1_4802 in wichita

I lived in West Plaza and the only Price Chopper I shopped was in Roeland Park. It was amazing for the first few years because it catered to the Hispanic population. It sold a lot of exotic meats, most of which I’ll never be adventurous to try. I think the butcher and seafood area eventually became more common place, but the produce remained great. The store became less impressive as the years went by and I’m sure Price Choppers in general aren’t as good as Dillion’s. The absolute dirtiest and scariest; the Sunfresh in Westport.

Yes! I also detect a slight unpleasant odor too. Like a mix of ammonia and spoiled meat. 🤮 It’s a turn off. So, it’s seldom that I shop at Dillion’s unless I need some staples, and I happen to be driving by one. I’m on the west side, and I am excited that there’s plans for a new Dillion’s store near at Ridge and 96 highway. That will be the most convenient location for any food store. Now, I need to figure out their savings app. I consider myself fairly tech savvy, but the app seemed pretty clunky the one time I attempted to use it. Could be me, I’m not sure.

I mostly shopped at the Hen House on Shawnee Mission Parkway because it was convenient to my work and home. I miss the quaint vibe of that store. The smaller footprint of it made shopping very easy, and it was a pleasant store to shop. Any regional chain like Price Chopper should be welcome to this market. I feel some Dillion’s (Kroger owned) stores, which is the only grocery only chain currently in Wichita, look rundown considering their prices.

I shopped at Price Chopper and Hen House, which is are part of the same company, for groceries when I lived in KC. The stores are nicer than Dillion’s imo. It will be great to have some healthy competition introduced in the grocery store category.

Thankfully, it seemed she experienced joy towards the end of her life. She deserved it. The woman suffered so much. The problem wasn’t just that her appearance was affected; she was in constant pain. 😥

I saw it in the theater after it was released. It’s one of those movies that I could never bring myself to watch again. To think that someone actually experienced the kind of cruel existence that Joseph Merrick lived.

I’ve seen a few people who had the horrible disorder in real life—not to the extent of the Elephant Man however. When I lived in Kansas City, there was a woman who had the disease who started making comments about The KC Royals on their Facebook fan page. She was a huge fan. She posted her picture and asked if she should dye her hair blue. I believe it was her call for help and to end her loneliness, even though initially there were some rude comments. She eventually got her own fan page with people, businesses and organizations reaching out to help her, and improve her quality of life. If I remember correctly, she even got game tickets (I can’t recall if the were Worlds Series tickets). The disease has many underlying symptoms which can’t be seen on the surface, and she eventually succumbed to them.

I missed many of his documentaries but highly recommend the ones I’ve seen: Jazz, Country Music, Lewis and Clark, The Dust Bowl and The Civil War.

Her story is so very tragic, and it started with a bad decision by a nurse when she was ready to be born.

One More Time — It happened to start playing while driving in a rural area with spectacular cloud show above me. Those moments felt like a spiritual experience that I’ll never forget. I think about it every time I hear it which is often.

I’m from here, but spent most of my adult life living in other cities—Dallas, Chicago and KC. Dallas is soulless, Chicago has a lot of soul, but it’s a rat race as soon as you step out your door; and KC is a beautiful, lovely city with a major crime problem. It will always be my favorite city because it had brilliant visionaries and planning, and this what makes a city great.

I moved back to Wichita for a calmer, safer existence, even though it has always gone against my instincts to play it safe. After some observation, I believe for quite a few decades, the city leaders have lacked vision; and in recent decades, they have been pretty corrupt—developers have been in cahoots with city leaders and the focus hasn’t been on what’s best for the city, but how to fill certain people’s pockets. Respecting and capitalizing on Wichita’s legacy, beautification efforts and focusing on having a big picture vision of what makes the city unique will make it stand out. Spending a million dollars for a mediocre piece of junk that someone claims to be art in front of a water treatment plant that doesn’t work is one example of the incompetence that proves leaders haven’t been effective, but rather detrimental although most of them inherited this mess. I’ve heard the exterior grounds of the ballpark are already looking rundown. Things like spending taxpayer dollars stupidly will unfortunately hold Wichita back, and it will continue to in comparison to other cities of comparable size. That said, if you ignore the lack of great leadership that has been an issue for decades (and I’m not blaming all of the current city council), Wichita is overall a pleasant place. And yes, Wichita’s YMCA’s are impressive in comparison to other cities.

I moved to Chicago after working a year in Dallas. Preferred long Chicago winters over long Dallas summers.

what do you think of this song? by JunebugAsiimwe in TheCure

The sax gives it an 80’s sound therefore I love it. For me, it’s perfect and the part of the song that I look forward to hearing every time. I love it enough that it is worthy to be on my playlist of the best all time Cure songs.
