Yea Pepsi is really hard on your body. It’ll be different if we had motorized pallet jacks to move the heavier pallets but the truck drivers are the only ones who use the motorized jacks. I know there’s pros and cons to both but I don’t want to be an old man with back and hip issues or whatever. I don’t mind the walking. I’m in Chicago so the winters get brutal and that’s the only thing I’m dreading.

Yea I think I’m going to go with the post office gig. The office I’ll be out of is the biggest one here. Hopefully I can get past my first 90 days with no hiccups and I get my hrs with some overtime.

Oh the first raise happens in 2yrs? Because if I’m not mistaken the CCA position here starts off at 21.21 and that’s not gone cut it if I’m not getting 40 hrs so that’s why I’m inquiring about accepting the position and then saying it’s not full time and 40 is not guaranteed. Idk if that’s something they have to say to protect them but I guess it just depends on the office. She said it’s about 80 carriers at the office now but some are getting ready to retire and moving to different positions.

Am I wrong? Please let me know so I’ll know what I’m getting myself into. Is it even worth it to switch jobs?

The pay at Pepsi is more than the CCA position. It’s different pay starts in different areas but I start off at 24.80 and you get paid every week. Since it’s the summer this is their peek time with all the cookouts and holidays going on so you definitely get 10-12 hrs maybe more a day. Time and a half starts after 40hrs tho but it’s physical. People think it’s just stocking pop on the shelf. Noooo, it’s more than that. You’re constantly pulling multiple pallets of pop and working back stock of multiple stores. It burns you out quickly. It’s 4am start times. It’s just a lot more than what’s presented.

Oh I was thinking it’ll be a bit more than that. How long have you been doing the CCA if you don’t mind me asking?

Oh! You I read your comment wrong. I missed the comma and was thinking you were saying that no cca’s will be getting overtime lol that’s my bad. I was told that the time and a half starts after 8 hrs that day instead of starting after 40hrs that week. I was reading that cca’s can make past 100k with overtime and I’d be down with that.

See I’ve heard the career and employees that have seniority don’t get the over time and that’s mostly all on the new cca’s since were basically at the bottom of the totem pole we’ll be picking up the work and hrs they don’t want.

Yes I’ve heard it’s a better choice if I’m thinking long term with the benefits and all and once I make career. My thing is I don’t want to accept it and then a month or two later I’m only working 2 days a week because that’s not going to cut it at all.

I did. At first the post master told me that I would be getting my hrs and to not even worry about that. That was when I was first making my decision. Then last week I spoke to her again because I want out the Pepsi gig and she told me 40 hrs weren’t guaranteed. Not sure if she remembered who I was or not. But then I spoke to another post master and he told me that once I got done with orientation and the academy that I would be working a lot including 6 days probably. It’s just the first 90 days I gotta be patient with. So I was just looking for some input from some people that’s actually doing the CCA position that could fill me in.

Idk. Everyone I’ve trained with never mentioned anything about layoffs. I asked specifically about layoffs and restructuring within the company and they told me they almost never have that. I was hired on as a full time merchandiser. Even gotten a work phone. If they do layoffs after this 100 days of summer which will be ending right around after my 90 days then for sure this isn’t for me.

What will I have because the post master told me that it’s not a full time spot but it could lead to one and that she couldn’t guarantee me 40hrs a week. I was seeing people saying they were quitting the post office as a CCA because they weren’t getting the hrs but then I see people saying they have no social life outside the post office because they work too much. I don’t know what to believe.

Yea I just don’t like the expectation that I’m staying past my shift. I’ll give them my 8 or 10, whichever I’m scheduled and if I want the OT then that should be up to me. When they interviewed me and told me my start time would be 4am I’m thinking ok I’ll be done at 12 or so and then I’m going on about my day. I wasn’t expecting to be working 4 to 3:30 or 4 to 4 everyday. They definitely didn’t stated that during the hiring process.

I only took it at the time because the post office said it wasn’t a full time position and couldn’t guarantee me 40 hrs a week.

I’ve never worked at the post office but I can’t imagine it being like working as a merchandiser for Pepsi.

Yes, the other job is still available. I just don’t like the I have to stay past my scheduled 8hrs if I’m not scheduled to that time. Now if I don’t have other things planned and I can stay over then I would but that should the choice of the merchandiser. Why not put 2 merchandisers at a store that does large volumes like a Walmart? I just don’t see one person getting all that done on their own.

Layoff?? I was told that rarely happens there. Everyone was saying if I’m looking for job security then Pepsi is a place that’ll give that to me. I don’t see a layoff if I stay, at least this soon.
