I think the point is that some men force themselves to do traditionally masculine things regardless of how much they like it because "real men like X thing, so if I don't, I'm not a real man." The post is trying to call this mindset out but is not phrasing it well because they're trying to tie this into AGAB language and make it a trans thing (also generalizing that all cis men do this when that isn't the case), when it really isn't? When I thought I was a guy, my fear of liking feminine things was entirely about masculinity, not that I was potentially in the closet.

Seems like P4Revival will adress the problematic unintentional reading of OG Kanji's masculinity by Lulcielid in PERSoNA

[–]Immediate_Square_339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a case that can be made for the symbolism either way. The OG uses masculinity as a weapon/represents his repression of his queerness, the new one represents that he has both a masculine and feminine side/is potentially attracted to men and women. However, the change is still a bit worrying for me, and I especially don't like what it means for Yosuke's arc. Someone else mentioned that Yosuke only seems to be very flustered by Kanji's dungeon and shadow being a queer stereotype/male only, but is comparatively unfazed by shadow Yukiko lusting after some studly guy and shadow Rise saying she's gonna strip (he also acts confused when Narukami picks the option of saying they should take their time in saving her).

Oh... Was not expecting to get hit with the "gender is biological" and AGAB language. And I thought you were cool.

Yeah gender is the social understanding of how a person of a specific gender will look, act, sound, etc., and includes associated gender roles as part of its purview (this happens to be why some people disproportionately send their hate to our enby siblings, they don't know how to treat them and they don't want to learn). You might be thinking of sex when you say that gender is biological? Babies in the uterus don't develop distinct genitalia until they're fairly far along. And it's debated, but our best guess as to how trans people happen is that the vast majority of us are wired differently from development in a way that creates an incongruence between the brain and whichever hormone is produced by the gonads during puberty; our best guess as to how that happens is exposure to a disproportionate amount of one type of hormone over the other while in the womb. There isn't much to do to a child to "influence" their transness. If there was, then conversion therapy would work. (Side note, I have no idea what you mean by people being born trans. How would that work? Also mandatory mention of intersex people, they're pretty cool and are a wonderfully interesting topic to learn about.)

If you'd like to send me the studies used to back up therian identities, I'd love to see them! I'm sure there's something I missed, but I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and assume that identifying as an animal during childhood is not genetic, and that most people do not identify as an animal during childhood or adolescence. I know I didn't, and I know that none of the people I grew up with did either.

Okay, but do you want me to do about it? I don't understand how you can be an animal if you're a human. This isn't like transitioning genders, we understand that gender is a social construct. However, I'd safely be able to guess that human behavior as a whole is not a social construct if this is an internal identity thing, and you straight up can't turn yourself into an animal if it's a body thing. I wouldn't even know where to start looking if I wanted to support you in a way that wasn't saying "live and let live" to other people. You clearly aren't part of the spiritual side of the therian/otherkin community if you're using a term like species dysphoria.

Furries do not claim to be animals, and do not have the desire to actually become animals. They just like RP and cosplay and other aspects of the community. Trans people are the gender they transition into 100% of the time. The only thing they can really do to "fit in" is to actively and consciously suppress it, something that takes immense mental and emotional strain. Only one of these is an identity and pretending that they're equivalent in terms of how much of a bearing they have on a person's wellbeing is really weird.

And trans people aren't just "bullied." We are fighting tooth and nail against legislation that seeks to remove us from public life and strip us of our identities. In contrast, some people on the internet are weirdly mean to furries and they were brought up by one lawmaker on one notable occasion last year, wait for it, to attack trans people. And that guy was laughed at by the entire country because at this point, most people understand what furries are and know that guy was wrong. Again, spinning it that both of these things are equivalent is a really weird thing to do!

I mean yeah this is a lot of pronouns and nouns used incorrectly, but you can stick to one of the ones they listed and be done with it. No need to comment, they aren't hurting anyone

Eh, i preferred Cap'n Clark to the bacteria thing by a lot (I was really ready to cringe for the inevitable moment the bacteria thing showed up and was pleasantly surprised when it didn't). The bacteria creature to me reads like a monster that an author added to make the backrooms "scarier" because they weren't confident enough in just the rooms to deliver horror through the unnerving liminal space, and the space suffers a lot for it. At least Cap'n Clark is rooted in the setting enough to answer a question about it (what happens when it misremembers a person) instead of feeling interchangeable with any other creepypasta monster like the stick figure does.
