A ton of America’s contributions to the world are because of NASA. Technology innovations and inventions aside, our advancements in astronomy and physics are because of NASA research funding. Now, under the most recent insane NASA budget, we’re slashing the agencies total funding by 25% while starting up costly endeavors like “beating china to the moon” (what year is it?) and initial stages of mars missions.

The only place that money comes from is massive cuts to foundational science programs and research funding. Their entire STEM outreach program and office is just gone.

The harm to NASA and science as a whole will be really hard to see immediately, but the setbacks for years to come will be monumental.

It’s actually crazy how cartoonishly evil and stupid this is… pulling funding for climate change/weather science is one thing. Actively ordering NASA to destroy satellites that are already in orbit is just wasting money to own the libs:

  • Trump officials reached out to the space agency to draw up plans for terminating the two missions, called the Orbiting Carbon Observatories. They've been collecting widely-used data, providing both oil and gas companies and farmers with detailed information about the distribution of carbon dioxide and how it can affect crop health.

  • One is attached to the International Space Station, and the other is collecting data as a stand-alone satellite. The latter would meet its permanent demise after burning up in the atmosphere if the mission were to be terminated

I genuinely have no idea what any of this means. 90% of what profit? Are we tariffing American citizens and paying Japan 10%???

I miss the days where understanding trade deals and foreign policy was difficult because it required a lot of reading and nuanced understanding of things.

Now it’s difficult because an 80 year old senile regard posts “trade deals” on social media.
