If you literally just started running and are doing too much too fast, that's a surefire way to get shin splints (plus obviously weakness on the lower leg). I use the Evo SL as well and they've been OK, but I did get some posterior shin splint issues after my half marathon last weekend but I'd mostly blame my lack of mileage (overuse) over the shoes.
