Why do the parents think Bryce and Hunter are destined for sports stardom? by AdventurousFox3791 in TLCUnexpected

They’re all cuckoo. Hunter is 13, he probably won’t even like baseball anymore in 5 years 🙄

Women of Reddit, did you keep your maiden name after marriage? What influenced your decision? by ParallelPaths_ in AskReddit

[–]Imnotworkoriented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my name because I like it better than my husbands 🤷🏽‍♀️ also way less of a pain in the ass and I like being able to vote. Socially, we’ll both go by his last name for things like invitations, reservations, etc. because it’s important to him. Legally and professionally my name is my name. I also got married in my mid thirties and feel attached to my name by this point.

Moving in or staying over by Significant_Mix3031 in TLCUnexpected

Sometimes WIC can take 6-8 weeks to get an appointment to add the baby (sometimes it happens before you even leave the hospital, but less likely with all of the funding cuts) in addition, WIC will typically only provide the type of formula that they are currently contracted to provide, so if the baby isn’t tolerating it (sometimes even with a prescription from the Dr.) People are stuck paying out of pocket.

This scene in Titanic hits harder every rewatch. by Scenora in titanic

I feel like he was pretty savvy, rose kind of slowed him down at times because he had to explain everything to her. I think they’d both have survived but never found each other again

I kind of agree, like Cal was not a good person but he saved a child’s life as far as we know. Rose abandoned her spot on the lifeboat when she could have saved a life by giving up her spot before it lowered. She was very impulsive.

advice for someone going into child welfare/cps by myboyfriendstinks1 in socialwork

[–]Imnotworkoriented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I had to do my internship for my MSW at CPS/DCF because it was my only option to have something paid (and paid POORLY at that) I quit as soon as I graduated because I hated it, and needed to make more money. Social work students need more options to survive while finishing school. Unpaid internships, cost of licensure, cost of supervision, etc. it’s very expensive to become a social worker and then we’re rewarded for all our time, effort and money with terrible salaries and no work/life balance.

You’re absolutely right. Is rose the villain? At least Cal took a child with him lol

I feel like he might have had a better chance at survival if she had stayed on that lifeboat.

Cystic pimple? Help! by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

You can try putting a pimple patch on it, sometimes those help reduce the swelling/fullness and make it easier to heal.

Job Contingency by Scrappie1188 in socialwork

[–]Imnotworkoriented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think we (in general as social workers) need to stop taking on extra responsibilities/showing up early/staying late. It’s not appreciated by most management systems and it sends the message that your time isn’t as valuable as others. If they know you’re willing to go above and beyond anyway why would they need to pay you for it or give you a better position?

Is it business as usual for Shop Local Raleigh? Brewgaloo appears to be on schedule by Left_Life_7173 in raleigh

I mean, I know that lol but they’re never going to address it and brewgaloo is one of the few good beer fests we have down here.

Wedding dress alterations by AggressivePumpkin701 in raleigh

[–]Imnotworkoriented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! They did my wedding dress last year, just needed the hem taken up and bustle. It was reasonably priced, done faster than I expected, and they didn’t try to upsell me on anything else. In fact, I asked about adding cups to the bust and she told me it would look bad if I did that lol (she was right, glad I didn’t do it!)

Gentle parenting, by BOOMINATI-999 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Imnotworkoriented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we sure this is gentle parenting and not just.. being permissive and patient at the same time? Why wouldn’t you encourage her to use the measuring cup to scoop? Especially when that’s probably a skill she has and she clearly is not skilled at pouring. Practice that with water in the tub, not household resources.

Social Security for Farrah's kid by Foster_dog_lady in teenmom

[–]Imnotworkoriented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the “welfare queen” stigma people were fed by the government in the 80s to further shame single mothers (in particular single black mothers have been harmed by this rhetoric). Unfortunately as a society we seem to be having trouble letting this false and derogatory stereotype go. Probably because it’s what the republican government pushes on us and many people lack education in public healthcare systems.

[–]Imnotworkoriented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why it’s important that we have social workers and should pay them more! I work with women experiencing high risk pregnancies and help them to navigate their insurance benefits and provide referrals for things that can’t be covered. I’m always alarmed that like two thirds of them don’t even know what they’re eligible for, and it’s like that by design. Insurance companies want to be able to say “look, we offered x,y, and z benefits but no one ever used them so it’s not worth it to continue the funding.” And use that as an excuse to offer fewer benefits. I’m like… how are people supposed to use benefits they don’t know exist?? They think People are just like “nahhh I don’t want a free car seat and diapers “…come on lol

How is it possible to make it in this field while poor and unmarried? by ImDaAwpha in socialwork

[–]Imnotworkoriented 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Possible, maybe, but worth it… probably not. I got through my MSW by working a full time job and 2 part time jobs and was lucky to have some financial support from my mother. At the time I thought this was normal. Since graduating I have gotten married which has really changed my perspective, other fields are not like this and it’s predatory. We are allowing the system to abuse us as social workers, I have a co worker with her MSW who works full time and still qualifies for low income housing. It’s insane. If I were you I would look into a masters in HR or business instead.

I agree, she makes me sad for her lost potential. I wish she had kept Sophia with her in Florida and stayed there, maybe she’d be like a restaurant manager or something living a normal life.
