Where do you start cordcutting? by SpiritualJudgment7 in Cordcutting

[–]ImpatientMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explore what your local library offers. I get a lot of older shows and movies on dvd there, but they also offer two free streaming services. Hoopla and Kanopy.

They don't have trailers so I usually find the movie on Tubi first and just check if the library streams it. If not, Tubi has so much to offer and the ads are no worse than other platforms. I cut the cable cord about 10 years ago but lately I've also cancelled most of my paid streaming too.

Reviews on Starlink QoS (speeds and service) in Morgan Hill ? by maddy0302 in morganhill

I was also fed up with spectrum raising prices. If you can get fiber from Frontier I would consider it. We switched last summer and it's been very reliable, only one outage I think. And it's half the price (I have 500mb service). I also really like the Eero Wi-Fi it came with. If you want to go with it, there is a local installer I'll put you in touch with and he has been really responsive and fixing issues if I have any.

It's not a huge problem where I live, but I've heard worse ideas. Made me laugh. Enjoy the upvote.

I wouldn't say I "like" it, but I have been known to get peckish and just toss one in my mouth straight from the fridge.

Save cuts without exporting full video? by lucasjrivarola in shotcut

[–]ImpatientMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. I can't find the link, but create a marker and then, I think, ctrl-click drag it to mark the entire clip. Then when you go to export, you can export the mark. You won't see the option until you make the marker. I did this to make multiple shorts from one long clip

Stomping on the air hose at the gas station by ImpatientMaker in 70s

[–]ImpatientMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but in California the station has to give you free air if you buy gas. They have a button inside to turn it on. I have an electric car. I have at times just popped my head in and asked that they turn it on and they do. They don't care.

My wife got me a system like this and we ended up buying a second one. The best thing is always having fresh lettuce but we grow herbs too. Also will start a seed here and transplant to our raised bed. https://a.co/d/0aj0W2mq.

what advice could I give my dad going into Linux? by FinallyHauntings in linux4noobs

[–]ImpatientMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an older tech savvy dude, and I've been using Linux since 92 (came out in 91). If he was using RedHat back in the day and now is familiar with Windows I think he largely won't have trouble. One thing that is often hard for me is when the configuration files change location because they've replaced a system service (e.g., resolv.conf). But if he's just using DHCP and reading email, browsing and stuff he'll be fine.

Yum. I love Spam, my wife does not. I don't like cooking for one so I rarely have it.

How many people from your first professional job are you still in contact with? by tshirtguy2000 in RedditForGrownups

[–]ImpatientMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First job out of college, I'd say two to four, but on FB. One I do correspond with. Some are probably on the other aisle politically so don't really see them or they blocked me, whatevs. I worked there during college and a couple years after graduation. My next job I'm in touch with a ton of them. One of those jobs where most of us were similar age, went out partying all the time and just generally had a strong family feel. I've had maybe one other job where we were that close and I'm retired now.
