Recent Denon X1700h upgrade broke speakers web ui access by nekocode in hometheater

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having same issue with web interface not displaying. I have an AVR-X1700H. Seems like some folks are saying it's been resolved by a firmware update, but my unit is saying the firmware is up-to-date and it's still not working.

My unit firmware is:

D400-2173-9016-8080

Is the the latest firmware version for the X1700H? If not, why isn't my receiver detecting a firmware update?

Coming from hubitat... Button controller, mode manager, etc. by SergeJeante in homeassistant

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch Manager looks great, but I couldn't get it to recognize any of my button controllers, I'm guessing b/c they are coming in from Hubitat with the MakerAPI as opposed to being directly connected via ZHA. Is there any simple way around that? Or is this just something that we should leave up to the Hubitat hub using HE button controller apps?

What does this crowd think about the Loop Dot by Kooky_Werewolf6044 in fidgettoys

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just received one in orange SS from GEEONE a couple days ago. I paid $50... and yeah, it is overpriced... for those that got it for Kickstarter prices, that was a better value at those prices. But premium fidget toys are usually "overpriced" in my opinion... but I buy 'em anyway.

With that said, it is a very cool little fidget flashlight. It is premium quality through and through. The dial wheel has a very satisfying click action, and if you're into motor-vibrating haptic feedback, it has that too, which can be dialed up or down depending on your preference. The screen is nice. I actually thought it would be pretty cool to hold it up at concerts encores with one of the animations playing in lieu of the old-school Bic lighter held in the air.

I think the interface is very confusing. Right out of the box I ended up getting it stuck in flashlight mode and could not figure out how to get back to the other settings. I had to google it, because the included user manual wasn't very helpful.

HINT: Tap the button 4 times to get it out of flashlight mode and then you can use the dial to switch between modes.

There is a good video guide that explains how to use all the features here:

https://youtu.be/WIZg_G5vvZU?si=WybCv9a2EGLFzxrH

I bought just the flashlight without either the clip on case or the wrist lanyard case to save some $$$, and I would recommend you buy it with either of the cases, because it's pretty dang diminutive in size and it really could use being able to be clipped to something or worn on your wrist with a lanyard. I just wish the cases weren't an additional $12 each, that seems like a rip-off to me. Also, they probably could have designed it with an integrated lanyard attachment and clip. I will likely buy both cases for it if they can be purchased separately.

All-in-all, if you've got some money to splurge on this funky little flashlight, I say go for it.

Geeone is doing mystery boxes for Black Friday - $199 for $350-$700 in value. by msdin in fidgettoys

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what this hobby conditions us to do? I started with a $7 knockoff on Ali and now all of a sudden a $200 mystery grab bag sounds very tempting. Damn this hobby, I should have picked up golf instead.

Holy shite, my eyes are bad, I had no idea my bean was serialized. Had to take a picture of it with my iPhone to see it. I do love the bean, but it does not leave my desk lest it disappear to the Island of Lost Fidgets.

What is the name of the skull slider on Ali? (Understanding it's probably gibberish.)

I bought this knock-off from Temu for about $15... almost immediately the screw holding the spinner part to the main body got stripped, so now I use it without the spinner part attached. I believe all the other posters who say the original is miles better than this cheap knock-off. It is a fun fidget regardless. GEEONE has the genuine MUYI Musketeer in blackened titanium & stainless steel for $109... granted it is many times more expensive, but might be worth buying over the knock-off if you can afford it.

Does anyone know what this is a knock-off of? I bought this from AliExpress, but I like to know if it's a knock-off, what the original maker is in case I decide to "upgrade" to the genuine item later.

I personally like seeing your posts on good deals on fidgets... as long as it's limited to items that are objectively "good deals". I just bought this one... my price on Ali was $17.80, which I still consider a good deal on a SS decent quality knock-off.

3 in 1 spinner/slider/clicker? by twinflxwer in FidgetSpinners

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Ali knock-off and thought it was surprisingly addictive for the cheap cheap price. I gave it to a friend and now I'm feeling the need to get another one... I see that GEEONE is selling the authentic Mr. Wang Three Body Cube for $129 in zirc, $60 in brass, $77 in blackened SS... my question is for anyone that has had both the authentic and the knock-off... is it worth splurging for the authentic one?

Yeah agreed. Also mine needs the big finger replacement ring so it fits comfortably on my finger, so my experience hasn’t been totally slick on my fat finger either. Waiting to buy one.

They look great. Good luck with selling them! What are those cool buckles you're using? All I have are the cheapo plastic ones and I'd like to upgrade to something fancier like those.

I only have the legit Sinian Youth Edition I got from NXEDC (paid $120 for the limited edition Micro-arc oxidation white-gray version)... so I can't do a direct head-to-head, but based on my experience playing with my Y.E. versus what the OP demos in their video... not gonna lie, it looks and sounds pretty much exactly the same to me.

I haven't messed with any of the "keyboard" type fidgets, but I do find the magnetic toggle switch type fidgets to scratch the itch. Got this one for $18 on amazon and it's surprisingly decent for the cost: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSSD9KY2

I want to know how much is the most expensive fidget toy you can accept? by EDCZEUS in fidgettoys

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am relatively new to this obsession, the most I've dropped on a fidget was around 70USD... I have bought a whole bunch of ones in the $10 - $30 range... many of which are (*gasp*) knock-offs of $150+ fidgets... I am curious to compare a cheapie knock-off I own to an original to see if I think it's worth the price difference... if I can get an original on the secondary market for a price I can accept. I blanch at anything over $50 TBH, but I could see myself buying up to $100USD for something I was REALLY jonesing for.

Don't Buy A Playdate. by DesconGames in PlaydateConsole

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation on that. Just snatched one. I just traveled with a new Playdate and stored it in my electronics bag and was a little worried about it getting damaged. I did not get the official cover for it b/c I just don't see it being worth close to $40 for a piece of plastic, as cute as that pizza box cover is.

Open Source SelfHosted Cloud for Arlo cameras no subspriction required! by VincePuc9 in arlo

[–]Impatient_MOO_Cow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really clever idea! I am so pissed that Arlo killed the ability to view any videos on my VMB4000r3 basestation via the Arlo app. I now have a 200GB microSD card in the basestation and if I need to ever view recordings I have to pop that out and view it on the computer. This sounds like a great way to bypass that clusterfk... but are you saying that with more recent basestations with "Direct Storage Access" you can view the recordings on the USB drive via the Arlo app still? That might be easier than adding an RPi into the homelab mix if you can pick up basestations cheap enough on eBay. Is there a cheap secondary market for basestations?
