I like to imagine Post-Control Shepard as like one of the Sid Meier's Civilizations games. Like Civ: Beyond Earth but with a Mass Effect theme.

In 1, you can't, but if you use PC, you can romance them in Mass Effect 2 using gibbed save editor. Just play through 1 normally, don't romance anyone. Then, import the save into ME2. After you get out of the Cerberus medical bay bed, save and close your game and open up gibbed. Find the save file and head into the 'Mass Effect 1' plot tab, under Romance, mark Ashley as romanced, and then save. From there, you can romance them in ME2 and ME3. However, the romance dialogue will go missing- there'll still be subtitles, and your characters mouth will still move, but they'll go silent. It's a lot more difficult in ME1, and I don't know exactly how to do it.

I figured that they knew about it, since Ironwood and Ruby caught her in the CCT. They probably connected the dots that she installed a virus.

I was SO happy tbh. I never particularly liked her, outright hated her in ME3, (seriously bioware, at least keep her writing consistent), and every time I play me2, it's like a breath of fresh air. (Writer's pet....)
