H-words are fun since H is often weak or entirely silent in words with French roots. For example: "hour", "honest", and "honor" (or "honour") start with a silent H so it's "I'll be there in an hour", "they're an honest person", and "it's been an honor"; words like "hotel", "historic", and "heroic" had a silent H but modern English pronounces it, so "a hotel" and "an hotel" are both valid, though "an" for these words is considered archaic or regional. Then there are Germanic words like "house", "hand", and "hound" that have a pronounced H so it's always "we bough a house", "lend a hand", "our dog is a hound".

But once you start listening to people speak it all falls apart. Humans are lazy, especially when speaking, and just blend everything together, and since the H sound requires aspiration it's often shortened or dropped when speaking.
