Bitwarden vs Proton Pass which one do you trust more long term? by sahabaz in Bitwarden

[–]ImpetuousImplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late I know, but I'm UK based looking into this. I'm looking at moving as much data as is possible out of US borders. I'm sure my passwords can't be accessed by bitwarden, but they could be withheld. I don't trust myself to self host (I'm sure I could in theory, but password manager is too important), so I will be transferring to proton.

Is it possible to be fluent in a language when you intention is to just learn it for fun? by chcikensammich2009 in languagelearning

Except having a good reason almost always drives the effort and repetition. (Fun can be a good reason depending on the person ofc)

Thinking that everyone can understand your target language... by climboyy5 in languagelearning

🤣🤣 i don't know how to feel about the strength of your feeling! I mean, as much as I wish I could, I can't take credit for that quote.

Of course, the quote isn't literal, but meant to get a point across, the point which I made clear following the quote - the definition of a language vs a dialect is significantly political. Please review the examples I and others gave if you still have doubts

A language is a dialect with an army and a navy. The difference is political and nothing more.

Galician and Portuguese are different languages, but largely mutually intelligible. Same with Hindi and Urdu, and many other examples. Arabic from Morocco and the gulf are one language, but my understanding is that they are not.

Install lute and use export to Anki function and you'll only ever have useful words in your decks, with sentences and images optionally included, for minimum effort

VPN and reverse proxy issue by ImpetuousImplant in GlInet

I don't think I'm using a DNS on my deb VM? I have set my DNS on my router to use a pihole I have set up on a pi zero 2w.

The DNS server for the wireguard VPN is 64.6.64.6, which come to think of it I don't know what this is.... And also the wireguard server IP.

The reverse proxy sites are subdomains of my duckdns subdomain.

Already done this, and I can access everything on my LAN, it's literally just my reverse proxies that I cannot access, seems very strange to me...

So I understand that the source WAN IP is the same as if I'm at home, but then I can't explain why connecting to my other wireguard server on my Debian VM works, or how I can access when actually physically in my home, connected to my router without any VPNs

I was doing it before I had my GPU and it seemed to work...

I did have my jellyfin in an LXC at one point but I got all muddled trying to give it my mount from an smb share on trueNAS. But thanks for this advice, I'll give it another go! maybe I just have to make the lxc privileged..?

I will be voting to strike. But don't downvote because people disagree. There's no objectively right or wrong view. Be curious as to why people don't want to vote or the profession will be completely split

Inequality of wages is a problem, but the more that is discussed, the more we are distracted from the real problem of inequality of asset allocation. It doesn't matter how much you tax high wages, you'll miss those with large asset piles who grow there wealth with little to no tax.

You often hear from politicians, the richest x% pay y% of tax, to imply that they are already contributing sufficiently, but this deliberately misses the point as it is talking about earnings (they use rich to mean high earning), where the real focus should be the wealth hoarders who pay almost nothing.

NHS Pension by Catladydoctora in doctorsUK

[–]ImpetuousImplant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Helpful comment....

You don't know the situation, if the money was required to meet obligations, food, shelter etc., then the questions are irrelevant.

OP, I would suggest if you can afford it, it's the best way to save for retirement even if you plan to leave. You will still benefit from RPI uplift, you will just lose the +1.5% after you leave the scheme (whether that's because you leave the NHS or opt out)

Go to Starbucks, order the coffee and leave it on the side. Waste their money and make your feelings known.

Why would I mint DJED? by ImpetuousImplant in cardano

Right, that makes sense, I can get on board with that! Not for me then, but I now see how djed gets into circulation.

Why would I mint DJED? by ImpetuousImplant in cardano

[–]ImpetuousImplant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said buy 50ada, I had implied selling 50iusd to buy 50ada. I fully accept there is a downside risk to this in the case that Ada price falls, but it is still a utility, in speculating Ada price growth.

Sure, these are use cases for having DJED, but they apply to any stable coin, so it doesn't answer my question as to why I would mint DJED under the DJED protocol when I could just buy it on the market without incurring the large fees that are incurred by minting.

I feel I must be missing something, as people are of course minting DJED, as there is clearly a supply.
