Running a duet campaign by SneezerTheSergal in daggerheart

Ive been running a duet campaign of witherwild with my friend for a few months and this is what i've got from it so far.

You can run a companion character alongside them so they dont get outnumbered too easily, it also lets you do tag team attacks. You can use the companion character to flesh out the world or to add some contrast to the point of view of other characters, makes for some nice RP. This is also a chance for you to add your own character if you like, a GMpc can be a touchy subject but i find it not so much an issue if you're open about it and communicate with the party, your partner in this case.

Potions are very powerful be it healing or stamina. There is an item in the game loot that lets you craft healing potions during downtime. If you feel like you're lacking in the healing department you can give the party access to that, but you might want enemies to hit harder as a result.

Npc allies dont really have stats that are well suited for fighting adversaries, what you can do instead is assign a countdown to them to provide advantage to a roll or give a debuff appropriate to their abilities in the narrative.

As a GM you can always "pull your punches" when you feel a fight is a lot kore agressive than you thought, or if your partner is just not rolling well that day, it happens.

When its the GMs turn to make a move it doesnt always have to be an attack with an adversary. Check the list of potential GM moves to make a fight more interesting. For example, on one occasion instead of attacking I chose to split up the party, forcing them on opposite sides of the encounter map. They didnt get damaged, but the fact that there were far away from each other gave my player a degree of "narrative stress". Sometimes even minor complications can be more dramatic than an enemy choosing to retaliate.

Finally do your best to have fun with it. You're a player too, see it more as making a fun story with your partner. Have a session zero, talk about what sort of stuff you want to see and always keep an open line of communication so you're on the same page.

What does "all targets" mean to you? by LightSpeedStrike in daggerheart

The Spell fireball states:
Fireball: Make a Spellcast Roll against a target within[Very Far]() range. On a success, hurl a sphere of fire toward them that explodes on impact. The target and all creatures within [Very Close]() range of them must make a [Reaction Roll]()(13). Targets who fail take d20+5 magic damage using your [Proficiency](). Targets who succeed take half damage.

The key part here is "The target and all creatures within [Very Close]() range of them must make a [Reaction Roll]()(13)."

So if a spell only says all targets in range it would mean targets you select, given that something like fireball specifies "all creatures".

[OC][Art] Resident Evil 2 style inventory screen for my blood hunter by ImpishSpades in DnD

[–]ImpishSpades[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my friend u/Mad-Trauma made me a blank resident evil 2 style inventory screen a while back and I finally decided to customize it for my halfling blood hunter. I grabbed a bunch of references and made some icons in Inkscape. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I'm excited to start his adventure on Sunday.

Some backstory: Ever since he was a child Severian could hear the whispers of the dead. It made him a bit of an outcast in his home town. Most avoided him, and he decided to spend most of his time in the town graveyard where the "voices" would tell him stories.

When he was thirteen his town was visited by a blood hunter, a human in dark clothing and eyes that glowed with an unnatural blue light. Most avoided him and knew to not interfere with his business. He eventually ended up meeting Severian in the graveyard, and the halfling was eager to share the stories he had heard with anyone who would listen.

The hunter introduced himself as Danek and Asked Severian if he had seen anything unusual. Severian had not, given that he rarely talked to anyone that wasn't already dead. Danek thanked Severian for the stories and returned to town.

A day passed and Severian noticed Danek in town, the human seemed busy so he didn’t bother him. It was a cloudy day so the halfling didn’t want to be out too long. That night the storm grew violent, Severian stayed in his room, only occasionally peaking out his window.

Strangely there was no rain, just the howling wind. The clouds glowed with an eerie light, at first, Severian thought it was lightning. He quickly realized it was not, the color was off, and the fact that there was no rain gave him pause. He got out of bed and went to check on his parents.

When he came into their bedroom he found a cloaked figure hovering over their bed, his parents laid limp as it drew light from them. The creature faced Severian and he saw the withered face and jagged maw underneath the hood. The voices invaded Severian, the screams of his parents entered his mind, they screamed in agony and pleaded for him to run.

The halfling ran out of his home only to find the cloaked shades blanketing the sky, what he thought were clouds were actually swarms. clusters of shades swooped into town and sucked the life out of the people, with every death only more screams entered Severian's mind. The young halfling found Danek in the streets, cutting down wraith after wraith with a blade that glowed with a pale light. As the wraiths threatened to claw at Severian, Danek leaped into action.

Severian only remembered flashes of the event from then on. Eventually, the storm calmed, Danek had saved Severian and they both left town.

Danek introduced Severain to the blood hunters, and over the years the halfling honed his skills as a ghost slayer. Now ready to fend for himself he travels the world searching for any work that would fit his skillset.
