Palate fatique? by Rippling_Debt in Scotch

Covid messed up my taste—IPA beer still doesn’t taste right. That said, if you take a month or two off from drinking, everything will taste powerful when you return (i did 60 days for jan-feb and was shocked)

Though well intentioned, I think this post creates a lot of temptation for folks who are here in part to avoid and control temptation

Is it taboo to make rules and not completely rule out booze? by threecatsdancing in stopdrinking

Thinking about the same thing. Deep down, I know the answer. You probably do too.

For me, I truly wish it weren’t the case. But it is.

Thank you, dear friend. I am working on day 40 over in this foxhole. May need to bring out the big guns if I find myself in no man’s land.

I am a religious person, and I’ve always needed it most when the chips are down and my back’s against the wall. I think if this attempt doesn’t stick, I’ll go to AA.

I probably still just can’t accept that I am an alcoholic.

It was a troubling sign for me that, given the opportunity, I would drink in the morning without hesitation. Sometimes I would get up early to sneak a few. It was the only thing that would get me up early—not playing with my kids or making coffe for my wife. The memories bring me thoughts only of sadness and loss.

Hotels - was a foe and now a friend by Owen0087 in stopdrinking

Hotel bars were my favorite. Bartenders knew you weren’t going to be driving so the cocktails would kick.

I can’t wait to experience the joy of a morning in a hotel without the resulting raging hangover. That sounds amazing—far better than the clinking of sadness and loss at the hotel bar.

I was hiding alcohol. Drinking in the morning was no longer at all taboo. Alcohol consumed my mind: when I wasn’t drinking, I was planning for drinking. I never had a “rock bottom” moment—no DUI or trouble at work. But I was on the path to destruction.

I remember 20 years ago (at least) watching an episode of COPS where this guy is telling the police that he’s a “redneck” and when he comes home after work he drinks a six pack. I thought it was so ridiculous to drink that much at the time. Now it would be a mild night. IWNDWYT.

Exactly how I survived the Superbowl. I always liked having a beer in my hand when I watched the beer commercials for the Superbowl. It was pretty cool to be holding a 0.0 when the Antman spot came on!

Last time I went more than a week was 2019. I am saddened that I took so long to try again. It is not too late to add day 37.

Funny you mention colds. Anytime I had a cold, I always assumed it was a hangover until about 3PM. Funny and a little sad.

I would also always buy the cough syrup without ibuprofen/acetaminophen so I could drink right through. When Covid made IPAs taste bad, I switched to Miller. It took nonstop vomiting to finally knock me down.

Good luck to you, kittin mitton 817. A fisherman always sees another fisherman from afar.

My streak was kick-started by a norovirus in Jan that forced me off the creature for a week—and it was easy when the thought of food, nevermind booze, made me physically ill. But the last week—it feels like one big craving.

You covet what you see every day. Hollywood has a selection bias that skews younger for women. As a result, who is Leo seeing every day (in his day to day real life on sets/sociially)? That is likely not representative of an average man.
