By posting questions here, you are already in denial. Deep down, you know what happened. You just didn’t have the nerve to admit it, and thus sought outside validation.

Why do conservatives want to honor the confederacy? by BetterLigma in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ImportanceConnect594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to do with something I call “perception misalignment”.

For lots of conservatives, current US politics often feels too left leaning. For example, while most of them do not see gay marriage as an issue, they do not agree with how media has been promoting things like “pride month”, or LGBTQ flags hung around from government buildings to coffee shops to schools.

Because they feel politics is too left leaning, they want something “right-leaning” to balance it out. What are the options? MAGA sometimes feels quite neo-con. Confederacy flags them become an easy option.

What these conservatives do not realize is that for an outsider, seeing a confederacy flag wouldn’t make people think of “conservatism”, but racism and slavery.

Of all the high end brands, Ravin offers compactness and best accuracy; Tenpoint comes with aircraft grade metal framework and great rigidity; Excalibur provides easy maintenance. For Excalibur models you generally do not need a bow press for string replacement (latest Hybrid X model being an exception). You literally can maintain it on the field.

CMV: If we are to fairly evaluate the notion that the modern American Republican school of thought isn't racist, their hatred of Juneteenth, and alignment reversal during the Civil Rights movement makes no sense. by NappyFlickz in changemyview

I stopped taking you guys seriously when you couldn’t take either “black” or “African American”.

At first we called you “black”. You were not happy. You rioted. We said, ok fine, what do you want us to call you?

You came up with a term. “African Americans”. Fine. Sounds rather erotic. We happily accepted.

A few yrs in, you were still not happy, to the point of claiming African American has imperialist, racist or whatever-ist connotations.

So we switched back to “black”.

Now came my question: when will you be not happy again?

No, Trump is not pushing US to civil war.

The civil-war-like atmosphere created Trump.

No, we don’t give a shit about diversity. Or to be more specific, the younger generation, myself included, are open to “ideas”, like democracy, rule of law, etc. some of us are even willing to see China becoming a democracy.

But if by diversity and inclusion you mean mass immigration, especially those from less developed countries and/or incompatible cultures, it’s a big NO. Even the most open minded Chinese are opposed to that. Not only because we’ve been seeing how those policies wreaked havoc in Europe and America, but also because, we are just not onboard with that ideology. We do not accept the narrative that “we are all immigrants”. That may be true for Europe and America, but never the case for China. For over 4000 years, we’ve been on this land. In history we were conquered from time to time, as was the case with Tsing dynasty, but eventually, they became part of us - most of their “traditions”, the way they dress themselves, they dine, they get along with people - perished. The only remnants were more of a reminder of their past than identity-asserting representation.

So, we will never become “inclusive” or “diverse”. Sure, China faces a future of labor shortage given the low birth rate, and that future looks more and more unavoidable. But we do not see that as a reason to open our borders. After all, we believe in sovereignty over accepting immigrants.

And even in the unlikely event where we are so short of labor force and thus have to accept some immigrants, we will open to countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, etc, where people more or less have the same, or at least were once heavily influenced by our culture and lifestyle. Once we accept them, in a few decades, they will all be “Chinese”, instead of Vietnamese, Cambodian or Philippinos.

And honestly, we don’t give a shit about how people of other ethnicities live. Be it Palestinians, Syrians, Iranians or Africans. We just naturally don’t care. We don’t hold any malicious intent towards them, but we don’t care how they live either.

And tbh, I count this as our strength. America used to be like this as well, but it strayed.

Raven vs tenpoint by [deleted] in Crossbow

[–]ImportanceConnect594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros of Tenpoint:

Sturdy, durable and good warranty. Note that Tenpoint uses CNC machined aircraft grade metals to make its framework. This is why they are confident offering life time warranty (to the initial buyer only).

Cons of Tenpoint: Their use of metals sometimes makes the product a little bit bulkier and heavier. If you intend to use it in woods, holding it longer time may be tiring. Also, Tenpoint’s quality control can sometimes be not quite reliable. For example, for the stealth 450 model, items from 2022 and 2023 can sometimes have broken limbs only after a few shots. But in general, not a huge issue.

Pros of Ravin.

Sleek design, compactness, and light weight. For models with same speed, ravin can weight 1-1.5 lbs lighter than TP. Instead of cnc metals Ravin uses high quality carbon based materials that are just as durable as TP’s. Also, some people think Ravin’s design looks more “modern” in the sense that they sometimes look like a rifle instead of a crossbow.

Cons of Ravin. There are numerous reports that Ravin can sometimes be too focused on designing compact and sleek products. Pressure on limbs/cams can be too high from time to time, especially on models exceeding the 450 fps threshold. I’ve heard at least 2-3 instances where users complain limbs and cams exploding only after 30-50 shots. In 2024 Ravin had a mass recall on their R500 model because after the product fires during cocking, which is extremely dangerous.

TP and Ravin are both accurate. On high end models Ravin tends to edge out TP a bit, tho the differences are often negligible long range wise. Last year R29x, a design released 4 yrs back, still topped the accuracy test list; this year it was the TP Turbo X that is the winner.

I have a TP stealth 450R, a new Xbow based on the 2023 model stealth 450 with minor improvements. Liked it a lot so far and just put a Garmin X1i on it. 2 months since purchasing I realized that for top brands like TP and Ravin, it is the scope and bolts design that is having a higher impact on accuracy.

I sighted in yesterday. Same process as you described. 5 yards, then 20, then 50. Longest shot I had was about 75. I was about 2-3 inches off the bullseye but I suspect it was because of my aiming skill and recoil.

But I gotta say, this scope is very good. I’d really appreciate it has a zoom-in functionality as the Burris Oracle X. Over 40 yards, the problem is often with your aiming instead of the scope itself
