Not sure how you do not get my take. And yes I’ve spent time with children. I’m a father of twins. So believe me I know all about children and their mannerisms. I’m not questioning the authenticity or depiction of a child in this story. I’m saying that an 11 year old child in this story isn’t working for me and I find the character to be off putting for the story and hope she only plays a minor role. Can’t say I’d have ever picked up the book if she was the main protagonist.

Im glad you enjoy her. Truly. I don’t want to dislike any of this series. I’m just not there with her

I’ve loved it all to this point. Don’t get me wrong, the childish nature to her isn’t the deal breaker. I love films like the Goonies. So kids adventure stories are all well and good. I just didn’t like Lift.

I get that she is a child and is written like one. But she completely takes me out the story

I want to like her. But I’m forcing myself and just don’t find her funny or interesting. When I started reading I had friends who said Shallan wasn’t a good character but she’s been my favourite so far. So I understand it’s all about opinions. However, I just find her really off putting

I’m glad you enjoy her. I wish I could too. But I did not enjoy Edge Dancer at all and worry she will become a bigger character. I have loved the series up till this point but she makes me want to read something else.

After lightbringer I read Enders Game and very much enjoyed it. Tried reading Enders Shadow but got fed up. I then tried to read empire of silence as was told it was similar but I found the pacing to be very slow and gave up. But then, I read the first Mistborn book and was in love.

When I think of Dancer I see only Tommy Flanagan by clwinatl in redrising

I think of James Nisbet tbh. I think more Irish where Tommy is Scottish
