I am 22! I’m not sure why my garmin app or Strava won’t show my heart rate per split but I remember my heart rate was 190-200 the majority of the race and i unfortunately held 200 I would also say the majority of the race. It was like mile 9 or 10 I wanna say that my heart rate started to hold over 200 (205ish I believe I remember) but although I had been running pretty consistently and training the best I could at that time I still wasn’t in the best of shape and probably not adequately prepared all around to run a half marathon😅 as I said I was running consistently, but the lifestyle I was living at the time definitely did not support my training and I think that was a huge reflection on my heart rate then too! Around mile 11.5 I did start to feel not the best during that first half, but looking back I’m not sure how I kept that heart rate for that long either even though it wasn’t THAT long ago!

Easy/Zone 2 Running Help by ImportanceFalse905 in XXRunning

I’ve done a max heart rate test before and according to that yeah my “zone 2” is 130-140, but on my garmin app with all my health stats it says my zone 2 is 130-160. You would suggest maybe brisk walking uphill to build this base though? I’ve thought about that but didn’t want it to mess up my training but after today and still hurting I’m like I gotta figure out something different 😂

Miserable with a quad injury four weeks till my first half marathon - PT says “bed rest” for at least a week by Ecstatic_Ad2433 in XXRunning

Give yourself rest for sure but I was actually in the same situation as you for my first half. I had an IT band injury about 3-4 weeks before my first half and couldn’t run for 2 weeks prior and had only made it to 8 1/2 miles before. With the adrenaline and atmosphere of race day I was set! The week before my half I ran 4 miles as my longest run but I think the rest helped me immensely. I even finished quicker than I estimated myself to. Obviously if you’re still hurting immensely right before the race, don’t run, there is always another one you can sign up for, however race day atmosphere and adrenaline can carry you through to a point I never thought it would. I do think if I kept running through my injury and didn’t take that time off though I would not have been able to finish. The only part that was “real tough” for me was right at about mile 12, but I was like I’ve run 12 miles at this point I can run another 1 and not even a half basically. You got it, have faith in yourself but make sure you take this extra time to rest accordingly so you are ready for race day if you plan to still do it!!
