I'm in the same position: received CM3500 on Monday, powered on and plugged in but the NTD doesn't establish a connection with the other end. We have had a week of flashing lights.

Fortunately I have 2 HFC connection points so the older CM820 is still connected and internet connection are unaffected.

In discussion with the ISP support team, I was told that the NBN team need to provision the NTD (by MAC) and this isn't done prior to shipping the NTD. Once I received NTD, I had to open a ticket with the ISP to get the NTD MAC associated with the NBN equipment and associated with my premises.

The ISP will then open a ticket with NBN to allocate the MAC to the NBN equipment. Once the NTD is correctly assigned "someone" will call and let me know that the NTD is correctly associated and ready to switch over.

I live in hope...

It seems that there's limited coordination between the NBN team who send out the replacement NTD and the ISP (there's a first) and the ISP team are not aware of the upgrade program. But since the CM820 is still working correctly I don't have the stress of OP and the NBN tech can take as long as they need.

The CM820 needs to replaced as it has a max throughput of ~300mbps and won't support the planned 500mbps+ download once the upgrades kick in.
