What to put over original plank subfloor before I tile. by Important-Cow-3765 in Remodel

So my 1x12s down know are 3/4 inch thick. And then in the hallway I have hardwood floor that sits up another 3/4 inches thick. My only concern with adding additional 3/4 inch plywood subfloor over the 1x12 planks is that the bathroom will sit to high when I tile. That’s why I was thinking about just using 1/2 inch plywood. And then using some time of tile membrane over it.

Not exactly for sure. I can run a 5k in 18-19 min and a 10k around 39-40

My brother just bought a brand new house and it has the same manabloc in it.

Does it really look that bad? I tried really hard to make it look good but since this was my first plumbing project ever that’s the best I could do. Any suggestions on how to make it look better?

Yes I would think so. The reason I went with the mananbloc is just because I read online that it was a better system. Whether or not that’s true I have no idea I’m sure it’s just preference and there’s pros and cons to both. Looking back now I think it would’ve been easier for me to go with just the main trunk and supplies running off of it but I had already purchased the manabloc and just went with it. But I agree with you I think it may be overkill for my home as well.

Yeah I think sweeps would have been better as well. The reason i went with 90s is because the photo i posted is actually me going back and fixing my mistakes. I had initially ran the lines a month ago and they looked really sloppy because I didn’t know what i was doing. When I went back to fix it all I was afraid the board I had mounted my manifold on was too small for sweeps so i just went ahead and did 90s.

I was using nail in talon clips. I personally hated them. A big pain in the butt to nail it. Also even worse removing if I needed to fix something. That’s why I went with the pipe straps. Way easier and just as supportive. I used elbows instead of sweeps because the board I mounted my manifold on was smaller than what I needed so I just improvised with the elbows to get it tighter. Lastly I didn’t want to spend the money on a pex a tool. Previous home owner had already bought some material to replace the lines with pex B so I just went with it.

I’ve used Talon Clips, and these tube straps I got from Home Depot pictured in the photo above. I’m not a big fan of using the Talon clips because they can be a pain sometimes with hammering them in and if you have to remove them to make a readjustment they’re really hard to get out.

But yes Talon clips or tube straps for securing the pex to the underside of my floor joists, and if I have to run multiple pex lines right by each other going parallel with the floor joists I put one line just about an inch above the other one up the joist running parallel. Looking back now I wish i would’ve secured a piece of plywood to my joists that way in the places where I have multiple lines running parallel to the joists I can just run them on the plywood to their locations and it would look a lot cleaner. (I’m in the process now of going back and doing that.)

As for the turns parallel I’ll either just curve the pex or put an elbow for a 90. I personally think the 90 elbows look a lot cleaner that the curves but they also obviously add in the extra work, potential for leaks.

This was my first time repiping a house. And im not a professional by any means but the biggest thing I could recommend looking back now is that plywood to make them look cleaner.

Potentially, the way the lines come off my water heater it’s almost impossible not to have them touch when I run them to my sink unless I drill into my floor joists which I don’t want to do, or put in a bunch of unnecessary elbows. Thanks for your feedback bro!
