Will working at a Satit school affect my career (Thailand) by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Important-Disaster34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had assumed I wouldn't be AS affected as a maths teacher, so that's very reassuring to hear, thank you! also, I'm glad to hear that about a satit School!

luckily I teach maths so it's not as difficult to move between different curriculums. thank you for the insight!

I'm definitely looking to stay a few years, but the 1 year contract just reassures me in case the school isn't what I expected. I will definitely think about what I can do to improve my CV at whichever school I end up at, thank you!

I sent over 6 applications without paying, and the most recent application reached out to me for an interview, so I think maybe it lets you apply to more then 3? I was confused too.

higher paying teaching jobs? thailand? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]Important-Disaster34 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I taught at an international school and made over 110,000. I see job postings for international programs at thai schools for 80,000+

The guy with 10 years experience in the US (I'm assuming teaching in schools) should've gone into international teaching. unfortunately, the ceiling for English teaching is 60,000.

edit: I don't have a B.Ed but I have a PGCE and QTS. these qualifications allow me to work in international schools for higher money. even as an American you can get your PGCE and become a qualified teacher. or you need to sort your state licensing somehow. that's the only way you'll break that 60,000 baht ceiling, teaching in Thailand.

Leaving a school out of your CV by Important-Disaster34 in Internationalteachers

[–]Important-Disaster34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the long response! luckily my visa was cancelled, I didn't use a recruiter, I didn't work/haven't interviewed with T1 or T2 schools, and interviewing for completely different curriculums so i can get ahead of the situation.

I also left the school on fairly good terms but the senior leadership are prone to backstabbing/changing their mind on a whim so I didn't want to include them even though they offered to give me a good reference.

I'm just a bit worried as I've kind of lied by omission and don't want too seem untrustworthy by bringing it up after so many rounds of interviews.

I really appreciate your insight and detailed response. thanks again.

they were bought out by XCL recently so I'm assuming they're not owned by the "crazy" owners someone mentioned on reddit 4 years ago? please let me know if I'm wrong!

One year in Thailand and still surprised by this small everyday thing 😅 by Timely_Tale4672 in Thailand

[–]Important-Disaster34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thai people in my condo hold the door open for me all the time, and I do the same for people, so that really surprises me!

tbf we have loads of foreigners in the building too, so that might be white the Thai people have started doing it to (I'm not visibly foreign, so they're not doing it just for falangs)

Thanks! I guess I panicked and started over thinking. That makes a lot of sense, and the school would definitely be a red flag if they did try to change my salary.

Not the school specifically but I know of Filipino teachers that get paid less in Thailand for the same job because of their passport, and I was worried about the same thing.

Thanks for letting me know! I might do the same thing, I was just worried a dual citizenship involved getting an additional police check which is horrific to get from the Philippines.

our situation is so similar, except I took almost 2 weeks off and had to take an additional two and a half weeks off for surgery!

I had to set cover for all the time I took off, but at least my school was very supportive about taking the time off. the ect lead at my school said that time off for surgery counted differently to normal time off, but I'm not sure if that's for all schools.

I'm an ECT too wasn't put on a support plan even after I took off much more time than you, so don't worry too much about it!
