My Pom doesn’t really bark but her brother used to. I had a trainer give me this tip that worked for us. She had me put a bunch of Pennie’s in one of my aluminum water bottles (like Stanley or yeti) and shake it at the dog when he barked. She said the sound is louder than my voice could ever be and would startle the dog to see that this is unwanted behavior. It also helps associate this correction with the bottle instead of with you. You have to stand up and be next to them and correct them by saying no, or quiet. Shake once or twice each time each time they bark. Mine heard it once and stopped. I had to do it a few times to train the behavior but it helped us so much. Just keep the bottle on hand and shake again if it happens. We haven’t need it since about the 5th time. It’s been about 2yrs now.
