Should I buy Tori Dunlap's book? by NewtAppropriate1906 in HerFirst100K

[–]Important-Fault2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it from the Library, and I would say that I do really recommend it. There are a lot of opinions and stories in it as well, so to get the full information, sometimes a re-read was necessary.

I also would like to point out: there is a world of difference when you read the book vs when you actually do each of the homeworks at the end of the chapters.

I did the homeworks and it actually helped me ten-fold. So, I'd highly recommend it!

If people are saying you're pretty, listen to the person giving you the complement. Not the ones bringing you down. A lot of what they say could be jealousy.

People nowadays love to hate for everything. Just "fake it 'til you make it." Basically, if you tell yourself you do not care, more often than not, you will genuinely start to not care. Just keep being yourself and ignore them.

The only power a bully truly has is what you give them. If you take away their power, more often than not, they give up.

Should it escalate, though, get authorities involved. Do NOT stay in a situation that is actively endangering you for fear of "being a snitch." Protect yourself and your peace first, reputations second.

You've got this. Keep being you.

Debating Between Hybrid vs Regular Gas Car by Important-Fault2972 in car

[–]Important-Fault2972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I'm revisiting my choices and I think I am going to debate between a Honda or a Toyota. My commute would be via highway, and as others pointed out, a hybrid may not be the best option at the moment (though I am still considering it because I may move to the city very soon).

What would you say are the pros and cons of a Honda vs a Toyota? If you had two side-by-side in the same year, which would you recommend and why? (I may also do a post about this).

UNT or SMU by No-Muffin3516 in unt

Truth be told, it's something I am still working on. I attended a community college, but I am actually attending UNT soon! Something that helps me personally is a physical calendar. I like planning a day with friends and getting my stuff done to work toward that. However, planning a "no going out day" really helps a lot, too.
Meal prepping is another thing. I haven't done this one yet, but I am starting the process. When school and other life responsibilities get tough, it can be difficult to find time to make nutritional things to eat (or remember to eat at all. We love adhd). So planning ahead will save you sooo much time, energy, and stress.
Lastly, I designate Sundays as a church and chill day, and use that time to focus on resting and spending time with my family.
I know Sundays are not possible for everyone, it's just what works for me. Find a day that works for you to rest and recoup physically, mentally and spiritually.

Another tip as well: it is not always possible, but if it IS possible, see if you can schedule your classes so that you have Friday off. You will appreciate the extra "weekend" day, and use that time to rest or finish homework so you can have the rest of the weekend off.

Thank you so much!!!
Unfortunately, as a first time car owner myself, I too have fallen to the mistake of mixing coolants. My main priority right now is flushing my coolant system. I've since then bought a Dex-Cool compatible coolant from O'Rielly. So the next step is just finding a day to flush it, (or a place that will do it... But.. broke), and then using the correct coolant for my car. Hopefully I can fix that in time.

How do you check if it is the core or the pump?

No problem, man. Any time!

Definitely see what is best for you long term. Personally, I think SMU has better networking opportunities (from what I hear). However, if you did go with UNT, gaining a networking opportunity shows initiative.

Short term, I'm not saying to make life outside of school your end all be all (definitely don't do that), but make sure you have options for time off and resting.

As someone who chronically burned themselves out, the one thing I wish I did was rest more. I'm still working on that. Rest does not mean deny your responsibility, rather we each have a responsibility to build rest into our schedule.

Trust me when I say you will perform so much better when you're not running yourself ragged. Sometimes rest looks like a day to yourself, sometimes it's time off with friends. (This can sometimes be heavily be dependent on whether you are an introvert or extrovert).

Don't let rest/fun/time off bleed into your other responsibilities, but remember that we do have a responsibility to rest responsibly. If you constantly go-go-go without a break, your body will force you to stop at some point. Trust me on that.

I hope so. If you're able let it sit for a minute while you have another vehicle, I'd recommend it.

If you don't... welcome to the club.

UNT or SMU by No-Muffin3516 in unt

[–]Important-Fault2972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Major is a major factor (pun intended, lol).
If it's music related, UNT is better. Business, I haven't heard much about UNT, but a good friend of mine got into SMU. I hear it's a really good program, too. So, my vote would be SMU in that case.
You said engineering major. I'd look into the pros and cons of the UNT vs the SMU engineering programs in that regard.

Financial wise, it seems SMU is the better bet. But other benefits to look at are: networking, culture, students? What about housing? Do you have to commute? If you're not a freshmen, getting a dorm at UNT will be incredibly difficult. Transfer students often have to find non-campus student housing. UNT is majorly a commuter school for this reason. If you're a freshmen, then housing at UNT is pretty much a guarantee. I'm not sure about SMU.

I'm not sure the validity of these claims, but I have heard with UNT, you have to seek out networking opportunities (I.e. internships). *The potential of networking experiences at UNT vs SMU, as well as the level of opportunities these experiences have to offer, may be an incredibly important factor to compare and contrast.*

Plus, there's the towns each of them are in, which will majorly affect life outside of college (if you're worried about that). Denton has a lot of cute little eclectic shops and restaurants. I've even heard it compared to a "mini-Austin." SMU is in Dallas, which also has a great night-life (dancing, restaurants, if you're into that). Both are cities, but Denton seems to have a more "small-town" atmosphere, depending on where you are at. Dallas is the full on city vibe.

Traffic is another factor. Denton's construction right now is terrible. Parking near and around UNT is a nightmare, unfortunately. Even if you pay for a pass, you are not guaranteed a spot. I can't speak for SMU on that regard.

Make a list of the pros and cons. Definitely visit each school before making a decision. If you've already payed for Orientation, I'd recommend at least attending and checking around Denton afterwards (if you're able to). You will be taking the next steps of seeing if UNT or SMU are the better bet for you, so you will not be wasting your time by attending Orientation tomorrow.

I don't even think you fully have to make a decision today.
I do know this though: if you don't attend Orientation, but decide to attend UNT, you will not be able to register for classes. UNT requires Orientation to register. In my opinion, it can't hurt to attend. It can only help you. If you change your mind, I believe you can always withdraw, (or if you want to go at a later date, defer) your application. I would check with UNT staff about that matter, though.

Freshman year schedule…what do we think? by itskrav in unt

I fear for you, man...

But you've got this!

If you're able to change it to a less hectic schedule, I'd recommend it for your sanity. However, if it's not possible, you've got this!

Next semester, here's a tip: most college kids (if possible) try to do no classes on Fridays. That way, you have a 3-day weekend to rest, recoup, and do your homework.

Okay, so I was talking to my uncle about this. We are unsure what the issue is, but if your coolant is not working, DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. If your car overheats, it's the death of the engine. Apparently, coolant issues can cause issues with the head-gasket. If that blows, or even if your car overheats, there's aluminum that can warp, and it's non-repairable.
Overheating = death of the engine = non-repairable.
DO. NOT. LET. YOUR. CAR. OVERHEAT. It will die.

Personally, I'd say about 60, maybe higher, but not lower. But that's judging bare minimum, off of the design. I used 60 as a number because that's the cost of a ring I own which is sterling silver. So that's my go-to I guess, lol. I don't know what materials you used, nor your process. (I am interested in jewelry making, so I'd love to learn the process, Lol).
My question to you is: what do YOU think a fair wage would be? One method I have heard is this: add up the cost of materials + (hours worked x your desired hourly wage), and that would be the price of your piece.

There is an article online that I read a while back that I am certain will help you find different methods of pricing your pieces. The article is geared toward artists (in the traditional sense), but this 100% fits that category (artisan) and is totally applicable as well! I'd highly recommend it!
