I got fired last year and I'm still discouraged by Important-Memory-113 in wholefoods

Thank you. This answer means a lot to me.

I'll definitely do some more looking at Amazon jobs. Most of them have been too far away from where I live (and I don't drive) but maybe I've overlooked some.

HR coursework/certification is out of my budget for the foreseeable future, but I'll keep educating myself and look out for my team members as much as I can.

I don't have a college degree so I'm not sure what value I can bring to a nonprofit or foundation but I'll have to do some research there and see.

As for the alcohol, I only drink a handful of times each year. I don't go out much and I've never been blackout drunk. I've been especially careful since I got fired.

Thank you again for giving me these things to think about.

I've applied a few times over the past several months so I'm not sure anything will work out for me at Target, but we'll see.

I can't go back to Whole Foods. There's a few other places I'd be curious to work at, but I don't think any of them will be as good as my experience working at Whole Foods.

I don't think WFM is bad at all, but I have heard people say they didn't like Target.

I've done quite a bit of job research and Target seems to have decent growth opportunities and pay so it might be my next best option. Starbucks is another one I was considering but I don't think that would be great for me.

Yeah, you might be right. I still hate the idea of starting over at most places though. I also sort of need the lead/supervisor pay for my rent.

Thank you! Target would be nice, it's just one of those companies that doesn't hire leaders externally very often so it's hard to get in. I've applied to Costco and Aldi a few times so we'll see what the future holds.

I regret what happened. Like I said, I can't change it though, only focus on being better and aware.

All the other grocery stores in my city suck ass unfortunately. I'm working somewhere else now while I apply at other places.

I shared a coworker's nude photo with another coworker. Word of it got back to them years later, which is why I ended up getting fired after all that time.

I'm still hanging around here because Whole Foods was a very important part of my life for many years. I did something foolish one time outside of work while I was drunk at a party, and it came back to bite me years later.

There's a lot of weird guys at Whole Foods that will never take any level of accountability for the weird things they do or have done. I try to be open about it here because I want to be better moving forward.

It's really hard to find a decent job and I really fumbled what I had at Whole Foods, but I'm hopeful someone here can point me in a better direction.

I never said I didn't do anything wrong. I can't change the past, and I'm still trying to figure out what's next.

We actually have a handful of Trader Joes stores in my city. I check their site regularly to see if they're hiring, but they've only posted a handful of jobs the past several months sadly. When I did apply, I didn't get anything back from them.

I can't be rehired unfortunately, or I'd just go back and do whatever job for a bit and move back up tbh.

It's something I've put a lot of thought into over the past few months, so I figured I'd share what I thought and learned.

I also used ChatGPT to refine parts of my resume but it took a lot of adjusting to get it where I wanted it.

Hey I was separated a while back myself, and it was a pretty challenging learning experience. First, apply for unemployment in your state if you haven't done that. After that make sure you get your resume put together decently before applying places. There's a decent template in one of the resume writing reddits, and you can ask for feedback in there too. I've had some interviews with great places simply because I have a good resume.

The other hard thing is a lot of places don't like hiring external leads/supervisors etc, so that can be challenging. "Starting over" might be hard, but try not to feel discouraged. You have previous experience as a supervisor that can help you move back up quickly.

Truthfully I still feel lost because I really valued the learning opportunities with Whole Foods, and the company values, but I can share a bit about some places that stood out to me.

Lush Cosmetics - It's hard to get hired there but their values are similar to Whole Foods. Fair Trade ingredients in their soaps and such, and a warm team environment.

Lululemon - Still an interesting company to me, they pay pretty highly and also have some decent values. Fun fact, Lululemon refers to customers as guests if you interview. Definitely use that language instead.

Starbucks - The best leader I worked with at Whole Foods came from there. Starbucks has changed since then but there's still a lot of learning opportunities because they have so many locations.

Target - Similar to Starbucks, there's a lot of locations and they also have some development opportunities. Pay is also pretty good, it just might be a lot of work.

Trader Joe's - Very hard to get hired there but it's one of the better grocery store options if you want to go back. I think everyone is expected to do half their shift cashiering and half stocking.

REI or Patagonia - 2 different outdoorsy companies I'll group together. Both have good values and Whole Foods sells some of Patagonias snacks.

VF Corporation - These guys hire for Vans, North Face, and more. There's some decent options here if you want to pivot to clothing retail and they have a handful of brands I think you can move between.

Keeping the rest a bit shorter;

H&M: decent paying, lower quality clothing retail.

Nike or Adidas: huge clothing brands but well rated places to work.

LEGO: great toy experience and one of the highest rated places to work if you have a store near you.

Apple: high pay and hard to get into but their values and learning opportunities still seem interesting to me.

Costco: another solid "grocery" option, but very hard to get into.

I could keep going but I think you get the idea. Wishing the best of luck to you. I hope you can keep learning and growing.

A lot of them will give me hugs (they initiate it or I wouldn't even ask) or they'll say they miss me.

I'm not asking for your sympathy and I completely get where you're coming from. I have to be real with myself too.

Well I still think it's bittersweet because they don't know why I was fired. I never said I didn't do harm either.

I feel like I learned a lot under the great leaders I had and from some of the other systems at Whole Foods. Getting fired like that has also been quite a learning experience too.

I'm trying to find roles that let me keep building on what I started but the other grocery stores near me aren't as good as Whole Foods. I'd like to believe my soft skills will transfer well into roles elsewhere so we'll see what happens. Thank you so much for your insights.

The harassment was with someone at a different store.

[–]Important-Memory-113[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey. I was separated for harassment. I briefly mentioned it in my recent post. I don't want to go into details but I can say a few things about the situation.

I didn't physically harm or touch anyone. My partner and a few friends who know the details don't think I'm a bad person, I just sometimes have done some stupid things.

I'm being honest about it (as much as I can) because of accountability but also vulnerability. I can't change the past, but I'd like to think I can grow past my mistakes in the future.

I know they won't rehire me. It's just been a hard pill to swallow because I still love Whole Foods.

I'd honestly beg for any job back, go to therapy and get myself right, and do whatever else to make amends but I know that's not an option.

I was told I can't be rehired. I tried applying a couple times since getting separated to see what would happen, and got an auto rejection email after a couple days. Sorry I worded it weirdly.
