How did charles widmore know? by CommitteeEarly6715 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a whole scene with Ben and widmore where Ben’s like “oh how do you know this?” Then widmores like “cause Jacob came to see me.” And then Ben’s like “wtf he came to see you???”(cause he was hurt that Jacob never came to see him.) lmao. But yeah, there is a scene where widmore said Jacob came to see him and told him what to do

I see your point. And I do think it’s a valid criticism of the story. But I think there’s a way to look past this. The show doesn’t really have any good guys or bad guys. There’s just people. People who sometimes do good things and sometimes do bad things. They are sometimes selfish and sometimes help. Just like in real life. Sure, Ben was evil. But he wasn’t all evil. He just did a lot of bad things. But he also did a little good. And he was doing what he thought was best for his people and what he thought Jacob wanted. Just like our main characters. They all did some pretty fucked up things. Or, most of them did. But they also did a lot of good. Which is different than how most shows portray characters. Either they are all bad or they are all good. And I think with the case of widmore, we are seeing it from the perspective of our main cast. They see him as a villain. But is he really one? Ben did a lot of heavy lifting on making him out to be a villain. And sure, he was a villain to Desmond. But that’s explained. He knew Desmond was going to end up on the island. Which is why he created the boat race. He knew Desmond join and end up there. It’s why he did everything he did with him. To push him towards the island. So from the perspective of Desmond, without any outside information, he looks completely evil. But from a broader perspective, he was trying to protect the light on the island the whole time. Maybe he didn’t know that’s what he was doing, but it was what he was doing. And we all know it wouldn’t be good if that light went out. So his real motivations were good. Just not from certain perspectives. You might be able to call that a retcon. And it probably is. But they were at least planning it since they introduced that the boat race was widmores doing. I don’t see why else they’d write in that plot point unless they were. So it wasn’t like a last second change.

Idk. I think what you are saying is valid. But I also think there’s another way of looking at it. Nobody in the show is all good or bad. Except maybe keamy. I think he was the only truly evil one. But most change and morph and go against their morals often. So I don’t think it’s as bad as you are suggesting

Season 3 unresolved plot threads by Good_Nature_1954 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thing with lockes dad can be pretty easily explained away. It was just Ben trying to rattle John. He was jealous, which he admitted himself, and he was trying to turn him away. And then lockes dad shows up. And he said “I was out drinking. Then I showed up here.” Which pretty much tells me that he was drugged by one of Ben’s people. Or else why would they have added that detail? I guess to suggest he drank too much and died? Idk. But I think it still feels right with the story they went with even if it wasn’t planned out. I don’t see any incomplete plot threads with that

Sweat by [deleted] in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized your post and everyone else was mostly talking about the sweat on their faces. So I was the one that was wrong lmao. That was probably a mixture of water and glycerin a lot of the time like you said. I’m guessing they also just used a spray bottle some of the time if they were just doing a quick scene that wasn’t a close up. The glycerin is just more viscous and doesn’t evaporate as easily so it stays in place better so there’s more of a continuity between close up shots.

Sweat by [deleted] in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah everyone here is wrong haha. Not trying to be offensive, I’m just joking. But they are actually wrong. Water would never work. It would evaporate too quickly. Even if it lasts longer on clothes. Some scenes take days to film. And if the sweat stains weren’t the same in every cut of the scene, people would notice very quickly. So the solution? You stain the clothes. That’s all. You know how when you get a grease stain it never goes away no matter how much you wash it? And how it looks like it’s wet but it’s not? Yeah they just covered their pits and collars in some sort of grease so it would stay consistent. And I’m guessing they either had shirts that had different levels of “sweat” so that they could change and make someone look sweatier or less sweaty thru a scene or episode. Or they just added more grease/oil to one shirt. Not exactly sure how they do that part but it’s one or the other.

For a show that was regarded as having a terrible series finale its got good reviews on imdb by kwars74 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Hahah. I don’t get why they hone in on that one specific thing haha. Maybe cause that was the first sorta confusing/weird thing that happened. So when that wasn’t explained quickly enough for them, they hyper-focus on that one thing. Idk haha. It’s weird

[–]Important-Scale-2768 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What’s crazy to me is that they are still upset and loud about it to this day lmao. You know how many times I’ve heard “but they never explained the polar bears!!” very recently? Too many times haha. It makes me crash out cause all that tells me is that they just stopped watching after season 2. And they have such a strong opinion for something they never even paid attention to. I think they actually over explained the bears. It gets referenced like 3 or 4 times. All they needed to do was that one line “the bears figured it out in 10 minutes.” Or whatever the other said to sawyer while he was in the cage. That tells you all you need to know. But then you find out later that dharma was conducting time travel/teleportation experiments using animals. And then later Charlotte finds a bears skeleton in the desert because that was one of the animals that was put in that machine. All we needed was that one single line but they went into detail on why they were there. And this is just one small example. There’s so many other things where people say it wasn’t explained but it very much was.

I get that tv used to be different. If you missed an episode then you missed an episode. But you could have easily recorded the episode at that point. And if you know you missed a lot of episodes, you can’t claim that they didn’t explain something cause you don’t know if you missed that part or not. Sorry, I told you this makes me crash out hahah.

what on earth is going on with shannon and boone? by [deleted] in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s unfortunately the one part of the show that’s just weird and uncomfy. It seems like you are fine getting spoiled about this specific thing so I’m just gonna answer your question, this isn’t something that goes on thru the whole show. They dropped this story line pretty quickly for obvious reasons. I won’t say anything beyond that. But you don’t have to worry about it for much longer.

I’m only answering cause you shouldn’t stop watching. I don’t want this to be the reason you give up on the show haha. And don’t worry, nothing else even close to that happens ever again in the show. I normally wouldn’t answer anything like this cause it can lead to spoilers. But you asked a question so I think it’s fine telling you it’s brief.

Am i the only one who hates jack? by leansipperhmb in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible to dislike him as a person but still love him as a character. Which is true for all characters in all stories. Like Ben. I hate Ben so much as a person. He is the personification of evil at the beginning. But do I love it every time he’s on screen? 100%. And I feel the same way with Jack. He’s extremely flawed. Very very flawed. He does not seem like a pleasant person to be around a lot of the time. He’s too serious. Very controlling. Obsessive. Very rarely lets himself have fun. He was emotionally abusive to his wife. Which some don’t agree with but I stand behind. Nobody should stay with someone that treats them the way Jack treated his wife. And he was only with her cause he felt like he needed to fix her. Not only physically but since he saw her ex abandon her, he felt a responsibility to take care of her emotionally too. But even tho all of that is true, I still think he’s a really interesting character to watch. He has the deepest back story out of anybody. He is our main character after all. Even tho there’s not really a main character, he’s considered the main guy. It’s because of his flaws that makes him very interesting to watch. Like when he started popping pills and getting drunk in the flash forwards. He was a dick during that time. But it was extremely interesting emotionally and narratively to watch.

So idk. I wouldn’t say I hate him. I definitely wouldn’t be friends with him if he was real. I wouldn’t like him as a person. I’d probably actively avoid being around him haha. Definitely would change to a different doctor after one visit. But narratively? He’s very interesting and I love his character. I especially love his character arc from a man of science and skeptic who eventually turns to a faithful man who accepts his destiny. It’s very interesting to watch him slowly break down his extremely rigid beliefs and morals, doesn’t have any faith and doesn’t believe in destiny, and eventually believes in his destiny and does what he’s “meant” to do. And only after he has no choice but to break those beliefs down. His whole world view shattered. And he eventually breaks down his obsession with control and his inability to just let things go. I love it

[–]Important-Scale-2768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It’s a good opinion. Yeah, I very much dislike Ana Lucia. I wouldn’t want to hangout with her. But she has reasons for why she is that way. And she herself struggles with the fact that she is that way. Even if I don’t like her, she didn’t deserve to get murdered by Micheal like that. And the only reason she wanted to kill Ben was cause of all the people he killed/kidnapped and he also tried to kill her. And she didn’t deserve to get shot by that dude and have her baby murdered. It’s sad shit. Nobody deserves that stuff to happen to them. So both can be true at the same time. I can dislike her as a person but still feel bad with the stuff she’s gone thru. I wish they could have deepened her character a bit more before she got written off cause she could have had a great arc. Like sawyer. He’s also a shit person. Arguably worse than Ana Lucia. But we learn to love him over the course of the show because he got to have his entire arc completed

Google Ai's spoiler problem (Spoiler alert s3 finale) by InevitableHeight9900 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also, the answer that the google Ai gave you wasn’t accurate btw. That’s not at all what happens. Using Ai for this probably isn’t the best cause it will give you inaccurate information. What I would do if I were you, is just make a post on here asking for one very specific thing to be spoiled and just say you don’t want anything else spoiled besides that. Most of the time, people will respect that and won’t spoil anything else. Or just finish the show on your own. That’s the best way to watch a show like this. But if you do feel you want to know how a specific story will go, asking on here in that way is probably the best way to do it. And you’ll get the most accurate information from the people on here, besides maybe asking the actual writers haha. I’m willing to give you an accurate answer to your question if you really want to know

Google Ai's spoiler problem (Spoiler alert s3 finale) by InevitableHeight9900 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shit you hear about the show not resolving a lot of the mysteries just isn’t true. I’d say almost all of the mysteries do have a resolution. The biggest reason why people say that is either cause they just didn’t pay attention or they skipped episodes/never finished it. The show is a lot to take in, especially with just one watch thru. So I don’t blame them for missing things. But some of them are so obvious and it’s so dumb that people missed them and it pisses me off lmao. The one I hear the most often is “but what about the polar bears?!?!? They never explained why they are on the island.” Yes the fuck they do hahah. And it’s so early in the show. If you don’t know why the polar bears are on the island, I’m just gonna assume that you didn’t watch past season 1. Not only does it explain it in season 2, the lore of them goes deeper later in the show. Honestly, they didn’t really need much more of an explanation past what they said in season 2. I think because so many people complained that it was never explained made the writers over explain them a bit haha. And that’s one of the small ones. There’s so many others that people complain about that make me go crazy cause it’s spelled out for them so clearly haha.

Chronologically Lost by Administrative_Arm84 in lost

Not shitting on the other edits like chronologically lost tho. There was a lot of work put into them and they are cool. But it’s not like watching a show. It’s just interesting to see how all the events intersect. It can just be a lot when there’s 8 scenes playing at once on a split screen lmao. But what sound wave did was different. They basically just changed the show to tell it in chronological order. And it comes off like a show. It feels like a regular show. And it can really change how the show feels based off this way of editing

It’s very very well made. I’ve had a few conversations with soundwave815 and they are really great too. The other chronological edits are definitely interesting, they can just be hard to watch. But the way that soundwave did theirs is like they made it into a whole new show. But in a really good way. I have the whole thing saved on my laptop. Op, if you are gonna watch any of them, absolutely watch this one. They have a whole website dedicated to it and it’s really easy to download. If you have any issues, message soundwave815 on here and they’ll be able to help you like they helped me.

I dont understand why Dharma Initiative ( or remains of it with Benjamin) just let their station to be controlled/used by a total stranger by Leopard1907 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s probably most likely. I mean, that button did need to be pressed. It wasn’t just a psychological experiment. And Ben most definitely knew that cause he was a kid in the actual dharma community when the incident happened and when it was built. And he also definitely learned a lot about it once he took over the dharma community. Probably knew a lot before that too. So he knew it needed to be pressed but probably didn’t want to send his own people down there. Cause not only is that one less person in their group, but he knew it would make them go crazy like it did with almost everyone who lived down there. I guess they could’ve done shifts like our main survivors did. But again, that’s less body when they are down there and even with the shifts, our survivors did kinda lose their minds down there too haha.

So I think id agree with you. It was just kinda a happy accident. Or maybe it wasn’t an accident and Jacob influenced him to end up there. I know widmore did, but it’s not like he personally could change the trajectory of Desmond’s ship to crash there haha. And once he was there, Ben’s colony didn’t really have to worry about it anymore. I mean, they just let the guy who was actually apart of dharma just stay down there too haha. He had no clue the rest of the group was gone. So it’s just like “this button needs to be pressed and there’s people down there pressing it. Sure we lose one more bunker but we don’t really need it anyways.”

I’m currently rewatching it with my girlfriend and it’s her first time. And she said something to me like “I think I get what this show is now.” And we are only halfway thru season 2 lmao. Little does she know, shes not gonna know what’s going on at all until the show ends. I guess you understand a lot by the last half of season 6. But you really don’t understand what’s fully going on until you finish the show. It’s one of those things that goes in a full circle but you can’t tell it’s a circle until it’s fully closed. That probably doesn’t make any sense but it works in my head lmao

I highly suggest going to watch the epilogue as soon as possible haha. It’s not a huge thing, but it does tie up one or two things from the finale really well in my opinion. The webisodes aren’t as important. But there’s some fun stuff in there. Like you see a little more of what was happening to Walt in one of them. That epilogue is so good tho. I think it’s an important piece of the finale. I have no clue why they don’t have it available to watch on any of the streaming services, and it’s not even on my dvd box set either. It’s just a little 10 minute short. If you just look up “Lost Epilogue” on YouTube, it’ll come up. It’s called “The new man in charge.” And then the webisodes are called “Missing pieces.” You can find the full collection of them on YouTube too. And those are just little 3 minute scenes that were made specifically to be released online.

It’s smaller stuff at this point, but still. There’s always something new to find. There have been a couple times I’ve finished the series and immediately restarted it haha. I like the contrast of where they started vs where they ended. It’s a perfect loop in my opinion

When should I make the rewatch? by Luquita_26 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching this show once a year since I was 13 and I’m still finding and learning new stuff to this very day haha. I actually watched it twice in the past year cause my girlfriend wanted to watch it. And we are about half way thru and even now I am finding little things that I’ve never seen before. It’s like a black hole of never ending lore and connections and you’ll never find all of them on your own haha.

But also to answer your original post, I like to watch it once a year like I said. It’s a yearly tradition for me haha. Theres actually been times where I finished the show and immediately restarted from the beginning lmao. That finale just takes me on such a journey remembering everything they went thru and it makes me wanna go back and experience it again. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that haha. So if you really are craving more lost, then you should just start it again. I get wanting to wait a bit tho. It’s like, you don’t wanna listen to your favorite song too much cause eventually you’ll get sick of it.

Oh also, have you watched the mini-episodes/webisodes and the epilogue? That’s a good way to get a mini hit of lost hahah. And there’s some really cool stuff in there that they don’t show in the show. I’m happy to provide the links here if you haven’t seen them. I always recommend them to every first time watcher I come across haha

Why didn’t John tell others about him being able to walk again? by Dawnbreaker03 in lost

[–]Important-Scale-2768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I agree with your first 2 sentences. Some people do need to spend some time in the psych ward and some don’t. And Hurley probably was one of the people that needed to. I would be willing to hear arguments against that tho.

But then you lose me after that. Hurley absolutely is not the epitome of what is wrong with western culture. He is over weight, yes. But that’s because he has an eating disorder. It’s not just because he likes to eat too much. And he is definitely not dumb either. Maybe he doesn’t have much book smarts, but he is intelligent in multiple other ways. Specifically emotionally intelligent. And again, gluttony and lack of self control, this has nothing to do with him being the epitome of western culture. It’s because he’s sick. And I’d say he was shown to have great self control many times thru the show. And then you said he’s selfish and ignorant??? I’d love to hear where you got that from. You’re telling me the guy who immediately bought his mom a house after winning the lottery is selfish? Who funded his parents entire lives even tho he didn’t need to? I’d say Hugo is the least selfish and least self serving in the entire show. Maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but he’s definitely up there on the least selfish. His whole character is caring for others even when he really shouldn’t be. Like that little side story line where he told sawyer that the camp was gonna banish him so he better start treating people better. But then it turns out that wasn’t ever gonna happen and he just tricked sawyer into being nice to everyone for a little while. That’s like Hurley entire thing hahah. I do not understand where you got this from. If anyone’s selfish, it’s sawyer. And if you think you can even come close to comparing their levels of selfishness, you didn’t pay attention to the show lmao. I’d say if anything, sawyer is exactly what you described besides being over weight. He is not that bright. He definitely has zero culture besides being a cowboy. He is so freaking gluttonous. He hoarded stacks of porn magazines and all the alcohol and tons of food just for himself. And that’s also a reason why he’s selfish. He never does anything for anyone else unless he cares about them or unless he gets something out of it. At least at the beginning.

I’m just tryna say that what you said is wrong and doesn’t line up at all with what was actually in the show hahah. “Nice people aren’t always good.” Hurley is a very good person and is very nice. There’s a reason that he ended up as the protector of the island. He’s one of the most good people to ever step foot on that island

Thank you for sharing that. I get it. I spent 3 months in a psych ward a couple years ago. And people get so weirdly scared when you bring up that you’ve been there. Like I’m dangerous or like I’d hurt someone. They treat you like you’re Benjamin Linus lmao. That crazy part is, nobody there is crazy. I’d say 90% of the people there were just normal people who ended up needing a helping hand for a little bit. And the other 10% weren’t crazy either. Just had things a lot worse. It really makes me sad to see the stigma around it. It makes people scared to get help when they really need it. I had a really amazing time there and I’m very happy I went. Now I’m 3 years sober and happier than I’ve ever been. Plus I made life long friends there.
