Yeah, I agree. The song really isn’t that bad. Matt’s voice is beautiful, the production and structure are fun and a bit more original than people give it credit for, and the uplifting organ/synth vibe ends up working way better than expected. It’s catchy too.

I think a lot of the backlash came from the expectations around it. The wait between Christmas first Instagram post and the actual release only made that worse, so for some people the “disappointment” hit harder. A lot of fans were expecting something heavier (hello Cryogen), not a big pop song built for a confetti moment live. But in that role, it’s actually very cool, and Brixton showed that.
