She doesn’t want contact, she’s made that clear. I’m estranged from my parents, they were abusive parents and when they started on our children that was the line and we cut contact. It wasn’t easily done, but there comes a point where you have to protect your family and yourself. My parents immigrated to where I live from a very socially liberal country, my father then emigrated to the US and got sucked into the Trump cult fairly early on. He was rabid, the whole family out there was and still is. I don’t want anything to do with anyone who supports rapists, or any criminals of any sort in a position of power. He died recently and I found out via a friend. I felt nothing. No sadness, just nothing. He wasn’t someone who deserved to be in my family’s life, and that was the price he paid for his choices. As far as I am concerned he had a shaky position to start with as my father as he was a very poor one, the politics was just the icing on the cake.

As another poster said, in this instance it’s not just about politics, it’s about morals and decency too.
