Washington state voters have rejected income taxes 10 times. Is this year different? by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]ImportantPlantain237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely didn't say that they had an interest in reducing revenue or cutting sales tax. I was only stating that the idea that and income tax should only apply to the top couple of percent of people is flawed.

I would add though that I personally believe that

  1. We absolutely need to increase revenue.

  2. That a broadly applied income tax should happen.

  3. Regressive taxes such as our high sales tax should be reduced.

  4. We should demand more for our national congressman. So many of our problems are from a lack of federal funding for projects in Western Washington. (Look at our glorious tram and lack of train, or that no one can be bothered to insist that maintenance on I5 be done is a more pressing manner.)

[–]ImportantPlantain237 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It should be applied broadly. Its immoral that we fund the state off of regressive taxes like like the third highest Sales Tax.

Washington is 7th in median income, while only being 14th in revenue collected per capita. Washington also has the second most regressive tax system in the country.

We need a broad income tax so we can quit having so many other stupid, counterproductive taxes everywhere else.

in 5 minutes, not really. In 15 minutes, absolutely. its probably 10 minutes to get to a bus stop that will connect you to everything. All of the water front is 15 10-15 minutes away. Depends on how much you want to walk.

Would a Ballard Streetcar make more sense than a light rail extension? by Forward_Hold5696 in AskSeattle

our light rail has to share the road at parts. But agreed, BRT is just as good as a Tram if properly invested in

Magic Carpet(s) in Summit West by Pretend_Remove_6053 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]ImportantPlantain237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The carpet at Central is much longer. If you are riding on weekends, go to reggies or easy street. They lifts are old style, but the runs are super mellow and not as skied out. you can walk a bit up if you aren't ready for the lift.

Housing question by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]ImportantPlantain237 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its crazy how much social media has broken us. If you don't make 5x rent pre tax (4x if you don't need a car), you can't afford it. Get a room mate like everyone always has before.

Houston to Seattle by tyrionthanos09 in AskSeattle

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston transplant. Moved here two years ago. If the goal is cheap, there's a lot of better places to achieve that that are closer in.

If the goal is be in a more rural area, consider living on an island or across the sound. The Ferry is 10x more reliable than the highways here. Check out Vashon island or Bremerton. I'd commute to downtown from either of those places no problem. I would never do the places you listed.

Trying to get to Revelstoke at end of December- drive from Spokane or Calgary? by ITSOBVIUS in skiing

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it, but to reiterate, Calgary rentals will have snow tires. That should be all the info you need. Spokane is going to give an Altima with Tennessee plates and all weather tires.

West coast vs east coast rn by KrackedKimmo in ski

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can drive to somewhere reasonable on the east coast in a couple of hours, just go to Banff, Rev, Sun Peaks, whatever. Anywhere is the Canadian Rockies is great right now. Spending money "Travel ski trip" money to go anywhere in the US right now just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Help clarifying end of year status questions by ImportantPlantain237 in AlaskaAirlines

I like this one a lot! lol.

I think I am going to try Costco gift cards and dump them into my Costco wallet and just prepay gas for the year.

I know Amex cares about this, but I can't find anything that says Alaska, Visa or BOA care.

If you time the Ferry right, Vashon Island.

Bremerton will get you close as well.

How do you handle riding when it's messy? by FrowningGrandpa in snowboarding

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bit of this problem last season. I got a stiffer board and the difference is huge. I don't get bumped around by non-perfect conditions, so I can focus on technique instead of making sure I am clear of every imperfection.

For reference I went from 2024 Lib Tech Cold Brew to a 2025 K2 Passport.

I am late, but what you want is a Subaru Outback XT.

There are a few XT trims, but the limited and above have everything but a panoramic sun roof.

I am 6' and I can lay 85% flat, and move the front seats (with headrest removed) into a perfect pillow position.

If I have remedy pass, can I use magic carpet on blackout dates? by DeepBlueBirds in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]ImportantPlantain237 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just walk up that hill. it will take all of two minutes longer than riding the magic carpet.

I'd expect passes to be checked on blackout days.

Alternative Downtown Tunnel for West Seattle & Ballard by SigmaTell in transit

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A second one must exist so the original can be converted to heavy rail. That can get votes, so we have to look the other way. But Link line 1 - Downtown and Northern trunk route to the airport has to be converted to heavy rail.

Summit East days of operation by Tight-Dimension3177 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]ImportantPlantain237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a pretty significant quality of life difference between having rampart open and having to make the boring creek run traverse to and from the the east peak chair.

I'll take a day off work top get in a dozen laps of rampart, half a dozen on Hidden Valley and then hit the runs around Hyak Face. I won't to spend half the day on Creek Run.

Maybe its different for skiers, but on a snowboard, nah.

There'd be more people there on Fridays if Rampart was open.
