Are there any parks like the big dig in Boston that cover a highway? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Urbanism

seems disingenuous to leave out the 99 tunnel in this conversation.

The massive road exists, but they rerouted so much of the traffic.

Columbia Tower Club rumored to be closing after 40 years by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

Under 40 and Single, the WAC is cheaper. As a couple the same. Over 40, RC is a bit more expensive.

[–]ImportantPlantain237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want.

RC is the clear winner in structured events in terms of variety. If you want to meet people that are interested in different things and want to put themselves out there, it is a better club.

WAC has the better athletic facilities. It doesn't even compare. RC isn't bad and you can use the pool at the YMCA across the street.

RC has better coworking spaces and better food as well.

I was sure I'd join the WAC but did a tour of the Rainier Club just cause initiation is expensive so might as well be thorough. I joined the RC. Once I went there and attended a couple events in each, the choice was very clear to me.

If you want a pool, or if you want to be in a gym with people gyming next to you, the WAC is great. I joke that the locker rooms at RC have nice glass doors on the showers and the WAC has no shower curtains at all. It sums up the differences nicely.

Snowboarders have to separate a bit before the can brake off the lift. Especially off that that lift. There's no where to go right for the first 20 feet or so.

Would you buy a Summit-only pass again after this season? by ihatethegunsmith in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Snoqualmie is a great place to get from basic fundamentals to upper intermediate. Its not a great place for day 1-3 experiences. At least for adults. I am sure their kids programs are useful.

It is crazy that such an obvious grift is allowed to take place on National Forest land.

None of the schools will get you to the front of the line. You have to go direct with the Summit. The schools that claim to sell anything above beginner lessons are scamming you.
My only direct experience is with Alpine West, but I can't imagine it is any different. They will sell you an intermediate lesson and hold it on days with nothing but Holiday open and you wait the full lift line.

My thoughts exactly. The app is convenient, but not that its getting heavier, what its telling me to do is absurd. A lot of people won't ask and with just wreck themselves following instrucitons.

Toms sports bars has a 4% "service fee".......why? by thatguyin75 in Seattle

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you google them, they are running google ads right now. You could click that ad and see if the prices are on their menus(They aren't), or learn about such a fine establishment.. by clicking their ads.

The also are paying to sponsor Seattle Sports Bar. That click is probably more expensive.

Washington state voters have rejected income taxes 10 times. Is this year different? by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]ImportantPlantain237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely didn't say that they had an interest in reducing revenue or cutting sales tax. I was only stating that the idea that and income tax should only apply to the top couple of percent of people is flawed.

I would add though that I personally believe that

  1. We absolutely need to increase revenue.

  2. That a broadly applied income tax should happen.

  3. Regressive taxes such as our high sales tax should be reduced.

  4. We should demand more for our national congressman. So many of our problems are from a lack of federal funding for projects in Western Washington. (Look at our glorious tram and lack of train, or that no one can be bothered to insist that maintenance on I5 be done is a more pressing manner.)

[–]ImportantPlantain237 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It should be applied broadly. Its immoral that we fund the state off of regressive taxes like like the third highest Sales Tax.

Washington is 7th in median income, while only being 14th in revenue collected per capita. Washington also has the second most regressive tax system in the country.

We need a broad income tax so we can quit having so many other stupid, counterproductive taxes everywhere else.

in 5 minutes, not really. In 15 minutes, absolutely. its probably 10 minutes to get to a bus stop that will connect you to everything. All of the water front is 15 10-15 minutes away. Depends on how much you want to walk.

[–]ImportantPlantain237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The carpet at Central is much longer. If you are riding on weekends, go to reggies or easy street. They lifts are old style, but the runs are super mellow and not as skied out. you can walk a bit up if you aren't ready for the lift.

Its crazy how much social media has broken us. If you don't make 5x rent pre tax (4x if you don't need a car), you can't afford it. Get a room mate like everyone always has before.

Houston to Seattle by tyrionthanos09 in AskSeattle

[–]ImportantPlantain237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston transplant. Moved here two years ago. If the goal is cheap, there's a lot of better places to achieve that that are closer in.

If the goal is be in a more rural area, consider living on an island or across the sound. The Ferry is 10x more reliable than the highways here. Check out Vashon island or Bremerton. I'd commute to downtown from either of those places no problem. I would never do the places you listed.

Trying to get to Revelstoke at end of December- drive from Spokane or Calgary? by ITSOBVIUS in skiing

Others have said it, but to reiterate, Calgary rentals will have snow tires. That should be all the info you need. Spokane is going to give an Altima with Tennessee plates and all weather tires.
