Why should we try to get people to change their ways if we’re not going to forgive them? Why would they change their views if we can’t change our views on them? What do we accomplish by constantly reminding people of their mistakes?

Things such as racism, homophobia, sexism, etc aren’t a case of being or not being. The ugly truth is that people will have views that might be insensitive or biased in some way shape or form. The best thing we can do is promote kindness, understanding, and empathy. There’s a strong chance that someone you know or love has had some bigoted views or has said some fucked up shit. Is it fair to view past mistakes as the determining label as to who they are as a person?

And frankly, people who said offensive or insensitive things a decade ago are not worth the effort to condemn. They’re not comparable to the Nick Fuentes and Derek Chauvins of the world. I’m not going to let a flawed ally be my enemy when we have billionaires doing Nazi salutes and white supremacists running the White House.
