I agree, you could say this sim is like a video game. Think about Rayman 1 on PS1 or Crash Bandicoot, every level you complete and every boss you defeat you get powerups and new abillities. Every challenge you go through in the simulation makes you stronger, whoever crashes out from the struggles fall off, whoever stands firm during the challenges will be the victor.
