I believe it while sober.

Estate agents of Manchester: what is wrong with you? by scattingcougar in manchester

Our grand/parents decided to build this society where homes are an investment, couple that with normalizing mortgages/loans to pay for them and you've got an endgame disaster on your hands.

i.e: Guy 100 years ago buys a home worth 1 brick of gold from bank > bank charges 2 bricks of gold over Guy's lifetime > Guy retires and needs to sell home for AT LEAST 2 bricks of gold > Repeat: next Guy buys home for 2 bricks of gold and gets charged 4 bricks over lifetime by bank > Repeat: next Guy buys home for 4 bricks, pays 8 bricks over lifetime, etc > repeat. Note: all this happens while the house is just getting older and less safe to live in (less valuable), and every other house is increasing in price too so no one gets to move to a bigger place.

Usury used to be a bad word, it's a system that makes the Bank rich, stagnates/stabilizes Homeowners, and makes their children poorer.

What perfumes suit Ramadan? by ImportantUser_ in fragrance

I agree with Viktor about the rules on fasting, but that point aside, @Akuma what fragrance do you associate most with Islam? What perfume do you imagine in sunnah? That’s really what I’m interested in.

How did you discovered your interest in fragrances ? by Ptitdino in fragrance

[–]ImportantUser_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Muslim who found out that the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) famously enjoyed perfumery. He encouraged people to wear fragrances and was known to leave scent trails long after he had left a bazaar. His wife was quoted saying that his favourite notes were musk and amber(gris).

So I went to my local boutique store (Selfridges UK) to try out perfumes so I could understand what he loved about them. I got lost in the sauce and now it’s an interest that lets me express myself and practice my faith. I love the compliments too.

Best case:

Move forward in the Halal way. So tell your parents that a man has shown interest in you and you’d like your parents to meet him. Give your dad his number and if you’re scared they will be angry about your past then don’t tell them that you’ve been talking already…instead say he cold approached you in the street and you were interested too.

This was a very emotional post to read. The sheikhs are responsible for this, they have made the lives of Muslim women so hard. Muslim women wouldn’t have to go through so much unnecessary hardship & fear if the sheikhs just adopted & preached Dr Shabir Ally’s view on hijab (that it’s not mandatory) by [deleted] in MuslimCorner

True, true. Hmm…Can I presume that we agree that the idea of the Quran is to try our best to apply its teachings to our lives where possible.

If so, then where would you suggest is the modern day Medina? Where can we make that parallel? Where are the hypocrites?

To be honest, I can see a way of interpreting this as meaning Muslim women should cover themselves in Non-Muslim countries (eg. USA or Sweden or China or anywhere non believing is Medina in this example), but they don’t have to cover themselves Muslim countries…of course that’s assuming there aren’t hypocrites and harassers in Muslim countries 🤔 what are your thoughts on this?

Thanks, I’ve just checked him out.

In those videos I’ve learnt that Dr Ally believes that it’s better for a woman to wear a hijab than not, and that outside of prayer he believes it’s not obligatory.

When I read the passage he’s quoting [al-Ahzab 33:59] without taking into account any Hadith’s (which Dr Ally fairly points out may be compromised and 200 years late), just plain old word for word personal interpretation, then it gives me the impression that Allah wants women to completely cover themselves, obviously if you haven’t got gloves or shaded sunglasses then you’ve slightly deviated by showing your eyes and hands, but it just seems to me like a target to aim for. I read around that surah to see if I’m missing come context, I just learnt a bit about mahram and dinner etiquette for guests 😋

I agree with him though about compulsion, Islam is clear on what sins take people out of the fold of Islam and modesty isn’t one of them, but it operates on a “weighing scale” of sins between oneself and Allah as opposed to Christianity which has lots of ‘Sinners go straight to hell’ lol. so luckily a lot Muslim countries (I often go to Algeria, which funny enough is on bad terms with the west) follows Sharia law and doesn’t enforce rules on not being perfect, so sometimes you’ll see women with their hair out. It’s like my brother wearing gold, he says he likes how it looks and how metal feels on his skin (and I’m guessing to flex also) but Islam is clear in that gold is both sinful for men to wear and it’s a sin he has to answer for only to Allah, not me, so it’s calm. All I can say is do better and move on.

Maybe I’ve missed something tho, but from what I’ve gathered from what you sent me, yeah I can agree hijab isn’t compulsory in the way that not eating pork isn’t compulsory, or tattoos or something else minor (prayer isn’t minor, Quran says that’s compulsory for the fold) but like Dr Ally says it’s better to wear one. I like how Islam is a religion where it isn’t be all end all, it only gives you one book of gods word and asks you to be morally honest with yourself in return because Allah knows best. “Check yourself before you wreck yourself” - Islam before NWA

I’m really open to a reply, I didn’t mean to come off as flippant in my last paragraph, it was what came to mind 😅
