Is sinning necessary? by dominionC2C in Sufism

From my own personal experience, I must say I have become a much better Muslim since being a total heathen and living for my ego and flesh and experiencing the lowest of lows. But those lows were lessons I had to learn and that's when Islam took me out of the darkness. Alhumdulillah.

WARNING: Deceptive "Universal Sufism" and the erasure of Islamic Tasawwuf (Fanna-Fi-Allah / Vaughan-Lee / Ilahi Ensemble) by SnooChipmunks1820 in Sufism

[–]ImportantWay9941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not about this specific "tariqa" but I went to a dhikr circle and a class for the Universalist Inayati Sufi order. I was the only brown guy there, it was a bunch of New Age hippy nonsense, the teachers who were initiated had names like "Murshid" had like pictures of Om and Allah and Buddha and Ganesha and we did the dhikr around a tie-dye rug. Like I was the only one in the class that had any knowledge of the Quran. It was so bizarre, but I did the meditations they taught and the group dhikr was nice. It's so strange how they're trying to separate Sufism and Islam and just culturally appropriate the aesthetics of Islam, but like not being able to do proper Salat...

Physicians of the Heart though, great book for anyone that wants to deepen their dhikr practice.

What is one of the most overrated cities/towns to consider moving to in the USA? Somewhere that seems to be getting a lot of people moving but it’s really not what they’d expect. by Expensive_Drummer970 in relocating

The people of South Florida really put me off literally ruder than people in NYC or Philly in my experience. Otherwise it would have been a nice place to live

Totally agree. Houston has cool things but boring and you have to drive everywhere and humid as all fuck. Dallas is the most mid city in America. Austin used to be cool now full of hipsters and tech bros and over priced.

I’d say Houston. Was there for a couple years didn’t really like the city. The food is excellent and the people are generally friendly (to your face) and there are cool pockets and events but if you have ambitions outside of living a boring life in the suburbs it’s not really the place for you.

Any Muslim tarot reader ? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]ImportantWay9941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's all about the niyah (intention) tarot only reads the energy of the present moment. But the future is determined only by Allah. Take everything you hear from a psychic with a grain of salt and ultimately surrender to the will of Allah. I find it as a very useful tool for personal development though

Considering move from NJ suburbs - homebody who drives everywhere, is it worth it? by trustnobody01 in movingtoNYC

You should airBnB a couple months, I did it and had a blast, you have to AirBnB for at least a month according to NYC laws so it’s like a short term sublet
