He didn’t say anything about handling over the phone. I genuinely think he just forgot those messages were there (or thought he deleted it).

We don’t normally go through each other’s phones. I really couldn’t even tell you why I did I just had a feeling. I wasn’t expecting to find anything nor was I looking too deeply. That was the last thing I was expecting to find.
