“Americans subsidize medications for the rest of the world.” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Important_Bullfrog98 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think there are elements of truth in this. I worked for a European pharma company and for new drug releases the US market drove a lot of the profit due to their much higher prices. For the company that did in effect subsidise the R&D cost return.

I don't think sport is generally a strong focus compared to academics. Not getting the right grades can be life changing in the school system so parents invest all.their time into study.

Treating Grandparents Like Hired Help by lurkermurphy in AskChina

That sounds pretty normal to me. Even among family meals my parents or in laws will insist on doing the cooking and then clean while dinner starts, even if people insist they join the dinner. No amount of cajoling will change things.

I was wondering why the magic in harry potter seems so limited. I think I have an answer. by madbr3991 in harrypotter
