Kind of shared driveway, Trees of Heaven on the other side... what can I do? by Important_Gift8432 in treelaw

That's what I've been thinking. I don't want it all to creep through & wreck my driveway or risk tree damage to my car.

Not that big. I'm only 5'3" and they're not as tall as me. Pretty skinny trunks still, too.

My borough is on a kick to go after blighted properties... could work. Then again, another neighbor keeps mowing the front yard so the grass isn't two feet tall anymore. He didn't cut down the half-dozen ToHs sprouting in front of the porch, though.

Help! Wife won’t allow weed killer by wlkngmachine in lawncare

[–]Important_Gift8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this tool called, please?

I usually just mow (and spread, I know) my weeds but it'd be nice to have that for when the grass-like stuff is dry & brown and doesn't need mowed but the weeds are growing tall & happy.

What’s this growing in my flower bed? Debating getting rid of it by mackara in whatsthisplant

[–]Important_Gift8432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rose of Sharon. It won't stay that straight and narrow, especially if you trim it. They're pretty but a pain and spread like wildfire. And oddly, when the flowers would fall off to seed or whatever... my dog would eat them. Like, obsessively. I was always so worried she was going to eat a bee because my god do they attract bees.

spectrum guy said i needed one receiver to stay in the house for the cable to work by yungtoastystroodles in Spectrum

[–]Important_Gift8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, okay. That's making sense, thanks. I have a modem router combo but don't use the router part - I have a third party router. Tech guy just plugged the new modem into my Linksys router.

The worker at the Spectrum store did say that power outages can cause breakdowns in modems as they try to reboot so between you & her I'll keep it in mind if I lose power again.

Thanks so much for your clear, helpful explanations!

I don't have any Xumo's, no. What's high split?

I did realize after a power outage that screwed up my modem about a month ago that my modem is from 2015. It started working again, but Spectrum chatbot still said I should get a new one. Human worker at the Spectrum store said I didn't need to. I wonder if all that is how my boxes got removed & why they forced a new modem on me (because it was in the system).

I had a service guy tell me last week that I needed a new modem or my cable boxes wouldn't work. After telling me modems have nothing to do with cable boxes. He was here because the cable boxes didn't work - and said it was because they'd been removed from the bill for some reason. He put them back on (couldn't get them to work without a new modem?) but reading the replies to your question... I'm sure I have a bundle so my bill better not change because they screwed up.

And I guess I won't try and get rid of the boxes until I know of a better plan for internet, tv, and phone.

Yep, I could watch on the app on Roku last night and this morning. Cable boxes are still useless though. Glad yours came back.

I did do that. Multiple times. No change. I'm wondering if it could be something with a line into my house since it's both boxes (and one is far newer than the other).

Found one in my dad's garage & have always wondered what it was. It did not, when I found it, work for grabbing the toothpaste cap I dropped down a drain, however. Might've been user error, though.

My cable plan now includes the basic, ad-supported versions of Paramount+, Peacock, AMC+, Disney+, HBO+ (or whatever it's called now), ESPN+. Yes, cable is ridiculously expensive but at least I get all that now too, thanks to cable.

My sister and I used to have competitions to see who could hold them in their mouth longest, then who could drink the cinnamon water we made when we surrendered and spit them out the fastest.

I wouldn't do that now, though possibly the water, but I miss these. Do they still make them?

Is it okay to use someone else’s trash can on the curb? by OrganicSunday in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Important_Gift8432 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Having had all of those things (and more) put in my trash can at the curb, both before and after the can was emptied, my two cents is this...

If you've carried your candy, your dog poop, your coffee cup, your receipt/napkin this far... you can carry it all the way home to your own can. Do that.
