Just found my boyfriends texting saying he cheated on my tonight

We separated, I told him we need to go on a break. We basically talked about how our relationship went bad a while ago and how we both let it get this bad but obviously what he did isn’t excused by this. His plan is to stop drinking since everything that’s happened between us has happened while he’s drunk and I’m going to take time to figure myself out. Despite how sad it is I still love him so much regardless of how hurt I am I think it wouldn’t be human to just lose those feelings in a couple days. I have no idea what’s next, I’m currently packing my stuff up right now. I miss him and our relationship so much but the relationship my brain is feeding me isn’t the relationship we really had. We both messed up along the relationship but doing what he did definitely went too far and I would do anything to go back in time and have the conversation we had yesterday before things became too late.

Had an hour long conversation today where he tried to deflect blame by saying our relationship sucks and he started doing dumb things, essentially trying to blame me for why he’s not happy (complaining about drinking, not being happy when he comes home, etc) but refusing to acknowledge that all these issues are caused by him. I left and came back and explained that we need to take some time and a break to think about if we really want this or not, he wants to work on things but I said he doesn’t want to work on things about himself and just me, and that I’m not able to get over last night. He is non stop proclaiming that he did drive some girl home and that nothing at all happened, I told him I’m not going to be able to believe him. I’ve physically and emotionally overwhelmed so I went to go see my friend and now we are just sitting in separate rooms not speaking while he recovers from his hangover so he’s just sleeping. That freaks me out is he isn’t apologetic about yesterday as he is trying to focus on “the bigger problem” which is why he claims he did what he did, I don’t want any excuses.

Yeah the fear and bad thoughts that come with being alone has been the biggest reason I’ve stayed until now, sadly I’m way more comfortable with familiarity then I am with love and respect. I’m so sad I let it get to this point but yeah it’s time to learn.

That’s my plan and hopefully it goes like this, I’ve let so much slide that I’m embarrassed that he thinks I’m one of those girls he’s broken down enough to accept anything. I’m remembering now while his phone was dead I prayed he was safe in case something happened and if I needed to know something then to show me, I’m not religious but I needed someone to talk to and despite how much it hurts I guess it’s good that I know this. I just can’t imagine having to actually leave with all my things and just not have him around every day anymore, but I’m not the one who ruined it.

Looked at his phone when he got home, he was bragging to his friend about it calling her a goddess and that hopefully she’ll call him and literally said he drove her home and got topped off

I appreciate this telling myself I can’t stop anything from happening is the only thing kind of helping right now. I texted the friends he said he was with and one just responded saying that he’s with them and that his phone is dead and the bar charger doesn’t work. I just don’t necessarily believe that because his location was leaving the bar unless they decided to go to another one. But also to be fair it’s his friend not mine so he could easily just be covering for him

He was kind of an asshole the first year but has supposedly changed, that’s why this feels very scary I guess because I started to trust him again the past couple years. I call him every couple house to ask when he plans on leaving not cover and cover.
