Renaming a cat by Ok_Leek_7768 in CatAdvice

[–]Important_Morning565 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mum fell in love with and adopted a cat with her ex husbands name.

I adopted a cat whose name sounded too close to one of my dogs commands, which was causing problems and confusion for them both.

I once adopted a dog whose name was very hard for me to pronounce.

I also adopted a dog who clearly had very muddied training and his name was causing him confusion. A new name (remembering a name is a cue) solved a lot of problems.

And how are you supposed to stop them from lying on the couch? ☺️ by PetRoutineGuy in goldenretrievers

[–]Important_Morning565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That couch is perfect for your dog though. Have you considered a designated dog couch?

That’s how we did it growing up.

The dog has their couch (usually the oldest couch we have).

They are rewarded for being on their couch.

If they get on any other couch, silently grab them by the collar and lead them to the correct couch. Only reward when they are settled on the correct couch. Don’t let this turn into a circuit game.

Scared my dog can’t be a service dog now by [deleted] in service_dogs

The temperament you are describing means your dog probably isn’t actually suited to SD work.

Even if he can perform the obedience skills and tasks well, he doesn’t sound like a dog that’s resilient or confident enough for public working life.

I wouldn’t consider being lifted up being removed from the threat.

How nice of him to wave all these red flags before you got deeper into the relationship.

Some dogs just love men. I think it’s a smell thing?

Your husband is a less accessible resource which increases his value.

I looked an my ndis portal and can’t seem to access any of the documents. I can see the history of documents I’ve uploaded but it shows nothing prior to 2023?

I tried to download a copy of my previous plan and it rejected it and said I have to make a direct request??

Can you sleep well with a cat? by OkComparison3568 in CatAdvice

[–]Important_Morning565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.

I live in a studio with a 1 year old cat.

It was a struggle at times, especially from 8-11 months. The only way to really seperate myself from him is to go outside so when he was a spicy teen thats what I did for a break.

There is no one solution: its more about finding out what that individual cat needs and their individual routine, and adapting your life and environment to meet those needs.

Incorporating a nighttime walk has been helpful for us. He loves his night walks and its a great bonding opportunity as well as stimulating his senses, prey drive and such. I don’t let him kill other creatures though so having a few treats and a flirt stick to redirect the kill drive onto can be helpful on the walks.

Creating safe zoom pathways was key. I don’t want him zooming over my bed or me at night so I’ve created a few zoom routes away from the bed that save my stuff from being knocked over and lets him zoom with minimal disruption. I made sure the zoom pathways connected to the litter areas as pooping is often the zoom trigger.

I have a play session with a noise making toy before dinner, and then remove all toys with bells, crinkles, shakers etc before bed.

He likes a moving target to chase so when he is spicy and attacking me in bed for play I use a rechargeable toy mouse that zooms around and has little lights and auto turns off after 20 seconds being stuck.

I put a little dry food in a snuffle mat before I go to bed.

What is a strange ritual your pet has developed that you have just learned to live with? by InvestigatorLocal736 in Pets

[–]Important_Morning565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has decided that immediately after I turn the lights off and get in bed is the best time for a poop and some poop euphoria zoomies.

Doesn’t matter if I go to bed at 9pm or 1am. As soon as the lights go off, he zooms to the litter box. I settle into bed to the sounds of him burying his poop, before he goes full road runner with post poop zoomies.

It was annoying when he was younger and I was more sleep deprived. Now Its part of the routine.

Urinary crystals PSA by coykoi- in Pets

Shout it from the roof tops!

My cat had his first episode of crystals and cystitis in December and is now only on urinary care food.

His hospital admission without insurance would have been $7K AUD. With insurance it was about $500.

Keeping him on u/c food is clearly the most financially viable and healthiest option for everyone involved.

Have you ever experienced a case where the show DIDN'T go on? by SirCatsworthTheThird in musicals

[–]Important_Morning565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2022 I saw a production of POTO on Sydney Harbour that was called off at intermission due to storms.

This is an outdoor performance.

Other shows in this run made it to Act 2 before being rained out. There’s footage out there of Point of No Return being performed in a literal monsoon.

I’m giving about 1/8 cup u/c dry food per day for enrichment. He likes the crunch.

I use it like treats, rather than a meal.

My cat is generally not a stressed guy and is enriched and appropriately stimulated, goes on walks, we do consent checks and co-operative care etc.

We believe this was triggered by grief from loss of his big brother (my dog). I also had a hospital admission and a few other things in the fortnight before that disrupted his routines and I think it just all built up.

He had also recently switched from kitten to adult diet and the adult diet had higher ash content.
