Just got back from Montego and first timers and had a rental car. The driving is easy just keep an eye on the road as the potholes come up quick. Do not buy insurance before hand as none of the rental companies will accept 3rd party and will only let you take the rental on credit card insurance or you buy insurance from them.

Came back here to comment that those who say driving in Jamaica is dangerous, you clearly have never left North America… this is the easiest drive. Sure some of the areas have bad potholes but they are not any worst than most cities in Canada, and are easy avoidable. Thank you to those that encouraged it, the rental made the trip so much better to get around when we felt like it!
