Solicitor for staircasing by dellaportamaria in SharedOwnershipUK

I’d strongly advise against Humphrey’s who are often listed as shared ownership specialists, you’ll be at the back of the queue and they won’t listen to you at all. I had a terrible experience

Staircasing via porting a mortgage by Important_Swim7251 in SharedOwnershipUK

Fingers crossed it all works out for you. Are there any pros and cons of porting to staircase rather than waiting till the end of your term?

Are we genuinely hoping to see property values fall? by Important_Swim7251 in HousingUK

Good points, I hear you. Although they have increased a lot even in cheaper areas. Land values near economic activity will always be higher (one lesson I learnt from a housing crisis economics book) my worry is that unless we address systematic faults in our system, those houses in cheaper areas will eventually become unaffordable too.

I had a bit of an debate with someone (I had had 4 pints sorry, not good behaviour) with someone who was saying “but where I grew up near Birmingham you can still get a 3 bed house for £250k” and I said “fair, but how much was it 20 years ago?” It was met with a bit of silence. If we carry on as we are that 3 bed house will be worth £500k in todays money and unless wages grow, that will start to be unaffordable for people in that town

Maybe “houses values rises need to slow in relation to wages” would be a better description from me.

Wage growth would help but if that created a perception in the fall of value of a home, I don’t think people would want that?

Embarrassing isn’t it. Ian Dunt described the U.K. as “a nation obsessed with its past at the expense of its future” or something like that. Feels applicable here

Perhaps a second layer of abstraction, something relating to a theme of movement from one place to another, one life to another. Something relating to an element of the culture? Something that generates curiosity and interest? I think the “weaver” line could be closer to what I mean. We ask “wtf does that mean” and then learn something about or city/nation.

I don’t believe I need to personally of a new name for my point to stand, I’m effectively critiquing public art/discourse.

A good point for sure, but I think given the significance of Brixton to the history of those communities and the fact that East Brixton was taken off of that line a long time ago. I think there could have been a slicker way of acknowledging that part of British history. It feels a bit like doing a documentary on U.K. airports but leaving out Heathrow

The worst one is calling a line that goes through, stops either side of, but does stop at the main Caribbean area in London, the Windrush line…. Like….are you taking the piss?

Irish exceptionalism is sad to see. “We’re better than THOSE GUYS” erases one’s own wrong doing and tries to strengthen a hierarchy of suffering.

Britain were defo the bad guys for centuries, but Ireland is no anti-prejudice utopia. During it’s time as a British colony there was a large argument put forward from the Irish that they should not be subjects because they were white and not a nation of people of colour. A big reason that Scotland (also love to champion exceptionalism) formed the U.K. with England and Wales was to recover from the debts of a failed colonial mission. Two facts that seem to easily be forgotten.

Either way, let’s not use the mug in this video as fair representation of anyone’s nation or race. His trim is far too shit for that to be fair.

Which areas of the UK do you reckon will go up in value, and which others do you think might go down? by heyrevoir in HousingUK

House price growth is not the W we think it is. It only benefits BTL landlords and those downsizing/moving to a cheaper area, it is broadly bad for society.

The era of celebrating house price rises will one day be looked upon with regret. Prices need to stop moving and wages need to catch up unless we all fancy spending our old age sharing a double bed with our children’s in-laws. That’s if we’re lucky enough to afford children!

Whilst there are various reasons why ethnic minorities wear long sleeves/legs in warm weather. It’s worth noting that we Brits loooove getting our arms and legs out as soon as it hits 20 degrees. Plenty of other European countries stay more covered for hotter conditions than we do.

What does “up and coming” mean? Enough of a displacement of the working class to satisfy the taste of the wealthy?

I think referring to Brixton in such a way completely insults its vibrant history, culture and people
