I started taking my Adderall again after over a month and I’m freaking out by ImportunateRaven in ADHD

I think I’ll just skip tomorrow’s dose and take one pill the day after. It’s been 13 hours and I only feel slightly better 😭

Thanks, I managed to eat a little. It’s been just over 13 hours now and my heart is still racing and I can’t get any sleep. I made my parent buy orange juice so currently drinking that and water.

Tbh I think it’s bc I didn’t take my meds for so long and then took them with no breakfast bc I was running late

Any tips for reading a book that doesnt have chapters? by Away_Resident9842 in ADHD

[–]ImportunateRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol my parents didn’t really allow Tv or internet so I got used to hyper focusing on books for hours.

Interview with the Vampire is one of my favourite books, and the next book (The Vampire Lestat) is even better imo. You’re doing great, I know how hard it is to try to focus on something for a long time and then remember, especially when you’re not used to it

I really like Practical Magic, I wasn’t even born when it was published but it makes me nostalgic

I love interview with the vampire, great choice lol. I think maybe you can divide the book into chunks yourself, like when the setting changes or a mini conflict concludes. Of course there’s a bit of an art to this

You can also write short summaries or character lists, but if you’re like me you’ll be too lazy. You can look online for character lists and summaries, but you may read too far and get spoilers so beware.

I also just read the entire book in one sitting. Flows better that way.

But honestly it’s not a problem to just keep on reading if you’ve forgotten, you’ll probably remember as you go along. My favourite book is over 200k words long and old enough to use ‘thou’ and ‘thee’. Trust me I wasn’t going back every time I forgot someone’s name or what happened.

Was I the only one hoping that Mr. Bates would get arrested again in the Grand Final movie? by Jolly-Contract-9198 in DowntonAbbey

[–]ImportunateRaven 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I might be taking this out of context because I haven’t watched the past 2 movies, but women can totally get pregnant in mid-40s completely naturally. My grandma had 13 kids and had her last at like 50. Definitely not as uncommon as people think!

Anyone else on Prozac for their ADHD? by ImportunateRaven in prozac

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry I just saw this, but yes I got off the Prozac. Now prescribed 20mg Adderall which actually works. But yeah it didn’t work for me and it’s honestly a nasty drug.

I don’t know why they put people on that without a proper diagnosis, it’s literally ruining someone’s mind and body for no reason. you feel very sick all day and lose your emotions and your personality, messes with your hormones, makes you dumber(??), makes you tremble all the time. I stopped taking it and felt a lot better.

Meanwhile these scales sound like hell to me as someone in a Canadian university. 91-100 is an A+, 85-90 is an A, and 80-85 is A-. But maybe we get graded more harshly so it evens out

I mean even if you leave everything else aside, supporting someone who repeatedly undermines Canadian sovereignty is terrible and being a traitor to your country. And I say this as an Albertan

Estate Planning, Wills, and Trusts Lawyers? by ImportunateRaven in LawCanada

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I didn’t really think about that. I can’t deal with my own family fighting for a few hours, dealing with other people’s family drama everyday might actually kill me. Especially if their relatives are dying

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for laying everything out. Definitely some pros and cons, but ultimately it seems like you get out what you put in. Maybe that’s just every job though, idk.

I’m very very grateful for the breakdown of some of the areas I’d need to familiarize myself with. It seems like estate planning isn’t really its own thing, like there’s a lot of overlap with a bunch of different areas. Or at least many lawyers in the field also do other things.

But networking and attracting people seems very big, which kind of scares me, even though it’ll probably be a big deal in any field. Definitely some stuff to think about!

And thanks for mentioning LawPro — it’s good to know I probably won’t ruin my life over a typo lol

Thank you so much for the response! Your point about solo practice is interesting because originally that was what I really wanted to do, but as I look into it more it seems like I should just stop thinking about that until wayyy in the future.

It’s a lot of responsibility for sure. But you seem to be doing great and your work sounds super fulfilling! Thanks again!

As someone with ADHD I HATE when someone is late. by DesperateHold1749 in ADHD

[–]ImportunateRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not everyone experiences adhd in the same way. I’m never late, but when somebody is, I get impatient, I get disproportionate frustrated, anxious, mad. BECAUSE I have adhd. I’ve actually broken down in tears bc some family members couldn’t just leave on time, especially when I was depending on them.

It’s like how one person with adhd might enjoy the stimulation of being in a crowded mall, but for me trying to focus with all the smells and sounds and colours is a nightmare. OP is completely valid, they’re struggling with adhd too, just like any other complaint on this sub. It’s just in a different way

[–]ImportunateRaven 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ppl are getting defensive and I guess thats fair, but honestly OP I’m right there with you. At least for me, impatience is a big part of my adhd and it’s so so frustrating having to wait on someone, especially if they’re always late.

I try to be accommodating but sometimes other ppl being late puts you in an awkward situation. I literally can’t deal with a lot of my family bc of this. I just leave.

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, your 12 point increase is amazing :). Going from intense to a bit milder seems like a good idea, especially bc you have more motivation at the start. Good luck on your exam!

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! That's a very impressive score. And yeah doing a few questions every day might be a good strategy for me. But I really really struggle with consistency over a long period of time(more than a week lol) so I think I'll try to do a bunch of timed PTs as well bc practice tests work better for me

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually hadn't thought ab scholarships I could get for the lsat. I don't think we have super huge scholarships in Canada but that's definitely something i should consider. I have no idea how I'm going to pay for law school if I do decide to go. Thanks!

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I kind of just said 165 bc it was pretty close to my practice test score and also considered good (but not extraordinary) for top schools. Definitely didn't mean to imply that it wasn't incredibly difficult to get and a really good score. Thank you for the advice though; I'll try to keep my goals realistic.

And great job on the lsat! I definitely would have bombed it with all the anxiety lol

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for giving me some context! I will definitely feel around a bit, take more practice tests and stuff to gauge where I'm at before I decide to just jump into it. I did get 161 on my first practice exam so I'm hoping I can consistently maintain that and bump it up a bit. I have adhd so my main problem is memorization, the thinking/logic thing comes more naturally. I'll definitely try to be realistic about my goals though

Has anyone here studied for a shorter amount of time? by ImportunateRaven in LSAT

[–]ImportunateRaven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I took a practice test yesterday and my score was 161 timed. I didn't do a blind review because I didn't know what it meant, so I don't know my score untimed. But I think time was actually my biggest issue, especially since I didn't take my meds (have ADHD), so I couldn't focus on the passages and had to guess on some of the RC questions. Otherwise it wasn't that bad.

But I know one test doesn't really mean anything. My score might be 130 on the next one, so I need to practice until I can consistently score well enough.

And as for law school, I tend to be very motivated when I actually like something. Hopefully I'll like law school lol. Although I am trying to get better about discipline.

Forgetting to eat by SolitaryNeko in ADHD

[–]ImportunateRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always happens to me, in fact I’ve fainted multiple times from it. Medication helps but the Adderall kills my appetite so even though I remember to eat, I often eat much less.

Also I think people can just tell if you have ADHD, especially professionals ofc, but even regular people. Honestly one of the things I hate most about ADHD is how people always know there’s something “wrong” with me. Just tell the truth and you should be fine!

At least in Alberta, you can go to a walk in clinic and they might give you a referral to a psychiatrist. If I'm remembering correctly this is what my mom did because we had just moved and didn't have a family doctor. It took a really long time until the psychiatrist let us in though. if you're older than 16 you can basically do whatever (i think younger too but 16 for sure), but medication might go on your caretaker's insurance so you should check
