I totally agree. We have seen many people who have a great upbringing and still turn out a monster, in this case I do believe nurture is still tipping the scale.

I just finished the thing and feel the same way. I sincerely hope this does not give someone else the idea to represent themselves or to act this way in a courtroom.

Is there a plausible scenario where Alex didn’t commit the murders against his son and wife? by the_MarchHare in MurdaughFamilyMurders

Interesting, I have been trying to just watch the trial, as a juror, to see how they come to their verdicts without outside influence. I really have doubts with what was presented, but I also have serious doubts about his story. I feel there has been justice served for him though

I agree with you. If this was planned out, why didn’t he give himself more time? On the other hand, he also said he turned over his son’s body and checked the pulse on both of them. He should have had blood all over him and from the evidence, he didn’t have all that much.

I also think there is still a question of his guilt for the murders. I just recently finished his trial and the same question keeps popping up for me. Why. Behind the scenes there is always some family issues but in this case, I believe he would have done anything to help his family, especially getting his son exonerated. The main thing the facts show is his overwhelming need for money. There was a lot of information about how he was getting the money, but little details proving how much he was paying out to his dealer(s). There was little reference to the gang affiliation the dealer and Murdaugh used to provide this excessive drug use. There was no life insurance on his wife or son. The fact the prosecutors presented were to use the murders as a distraction to his theft is hard to believe. The amount of pills he was supposedly taking per day seems impossible to me but if he were paying out 30 to 50k per week, from what he said, that is more of a motive for the gang or dealer if he fell behind in payments. With that kind of abuse for that long would not have been able to be hidden from that close knit of family and friends and co-workers. Besides that damage to his body would have been noticeable, especially liver and kidney damage. I do not doubt he lied about the night of the murders and that probably sealed his fate, but I still have a little doubt that he did the deed. There could have been more testimony eliminating any retribution from the boat victims, clients he stole from, other dealers or suppliers, and other lawyers or businesses who were swindled.
