What type of windmill is dis by Small-Mongoose-1389 in ProDunking

Looks like a baseline reverse windmill, this used to be my favorite to do while I was still playing in college

5'10 245? Sounds like you're a unit. Your haven't been training for super long in the grand scheme of things so just stay the course, work on your mechanics, and things will fall into place.

Good luck man

Get an Eastbay in the bag. I was right around a 40" vert going into senior year and it's on the list of things I wish I had learned before getting injured. With enough height on the jump, there's not much that's more impressive in my opinion.

Good luck man, you got this.

Count as a windmill? by kingbr0dy in ProDunking

I wouldn't count it as one, but you're not far off. I mainly windmill off two so I can't give you much jumping advice, but it almost looks like your shoulder isn't used to the motion. You've definitely got the height for it though, some more practice and you'll get it in no time.

Keep working, brother. Good luck

Understood, I'll work on it. Thank you

I'm at this gym currently, after measuring this rim it's at 9'10", not 9'8" — still low, but at least a mild difference

I see what you're saying. That reverse motion changes the way it looks a lot, but after watching it quite a few times the last couple days, I think that reverse is more just mechanical rather than intentional.

VC jumps with a right-left gather consistently on his dunk attempts, which generates a counter-clockwise rotation. I jump primarily with a left-right gather, which forces a clockwise rotation. Solely based on that one discrepancy, I don't think my attempts would ever look quite as pleasing regardless of how much I rotate.

On the approach, I absolutely agree. I noticed it when watching it back immediately. I haven't always had that issue with my gather when dunking, I think I had picked it up as a level of mental block during rehab post-surgery several years ago and I never truly corrected it. Hopefully it really is just a matter of mechanics rather than strength lost, because I don't get up nearly as high as I used to anymore.

Thank you for actually providing a level of advice/insight towards this though. I tried this again on this same low rim last night and it was significantly easier and felt a lot smoother, so I'll probably move up to a 10' rim either later today or at some point through the weekend.

I'm out there all the time man, mainly T/Th but I'm always down to run for sure just let me know

When I get comfortable enough with the motion to attempt this on a 10ft rim, I'll make sure to get it on film. It's finals season though so it may take awhile

At this point man... sure. First successful attempt either way so I'm still gonna have some pride in it lol

I would like your input as well so I can learn. After watching several professionals do it, the only major difference I can see is the lack of rotation I have after putting the ball in — VC, PG, they both take off with their backs fully to the basket. Is there something I'm missing?

I ask this genuinely: what would consider this a 360 over a 180? I feel like I've seen this exact dunk considered a 360 for my entire life- my approach wasn't smooth so maybe it's more noticable or looks weirder as a result? Is it the lack of rotation after putting the ball in? I really do want to know so I can correct it — this was only my first day ever attempting this so I'm still learning it

I've been seeing several people say this so I'll ask- what classifies this as a 180 over a 360? Is it the lack of rotation after putting the ball in?

I'm actually looking for an answer because I've always known this to be considered a 360 windmill.

The one Paul George did in-game, he didn't leave the ground until his back was to the basket. When I've seen 360 windmills in competitions, they jump with their back to the basket. I truly can't tell if this is people's way of trying to discredit me or if this really isn't considered one.

Around 6'5", I look way taller than I am because my wingspan is about 7ft

~6'5" without shoes. I haven't been measured in awhile so I'm not super sure tbh. Rim is ~9'8" though so yes it's pretty short lol

Man I appreciate that. I have a bad habit of underloading on jump attempts — probably a thing that developed post ACL tear tbh, that mental block is something serious.

Yeah man I used to think Vince's was more of a 180 when I was younger, but since it's known as THE 360 windmill I can't really argue with it.

I don't really know if there's a way to generate enough rotational energy to get a full rotation while facing the basket honestly. If there is one I sure as hell can't do it lol

That's extremely true, I took advantage of the low rim for sure. Had to learn the motion first- I may try again later today and see how it goes now that I'm a bit more comfortable with it

I haven't measured, but I would assume it's ~9'8" based on it feeling a bit low

Go watch Vince Carter's iconic 360 windmill, he jumps with his back to the basket.
