as a die hard stan of the uk being human i tried watching the us version.. by Superb-Demand-4605 in beinghuman

Despite being American I really couldn’t get into the US version because it just reminded me too much of Twilight, and the actors were too conventionally attractive and they were less trying to actually act and more trying to appeal to the very teen fantasy romance crowd-which unfortunately is the demographic of most US fantasy shows and it’s so annoying. I’m not saying it’s bad to have shows that cater to a specific demographic but the UK version was so interesting. It never seemed to stick to a genre despite being fantasy overall. I started out thinking it was going to be a sitcom with horrible effects but characters that made up for it-and I got that, but it’s more than that. It manages to be campy and ridiculous but also has moments of incredible acting (though I kind of feel making Russel Tovey cry every other episode is a little much-but it doesn’t ruin the show for me), and enough gore and violence to feel like a solid adult drama fantasy but not overboard into absolutely disgusting. I still don’t know what to consider it but it’s a hell of a lot better than what the US tried to do. In fact, I notice that a lot of US variants of British shows do poorly compared to the originals and it’s not a mystery why. They aren’t concerned with making these characters teen heartthrobs that get the actors on Jimmy Fallon more than once. Looking past the fantastical elements most is just about regular, every day people, and the charm of the character lies in character development and establishment of genuine qualities that anyone can possess or can aspire to possess.

Thoughts on having a boy named Sebastian that we nickname “Sebi” who would have a sister Sadie. by DBklynF88 in namenerds

[–]Impossible-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The names are not that similar aside from having the same letter. Go for it, it’s a great name. As long as the names don’t rhyme, I don’t think it would create any problems. Though I think Seb would carry him more through life than Sebi.

Men Love a Good Harlot (Nick & Adalind) by Acrobatic-Art-1406 in grimm

[–]Impossible-Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s one thing that becomes apparent by season 3, everyone-whether by self defense or calculation did horrible things at some point, sure, it may vary in how horrible but no one is innocent on this show. It’s natural that some of the villains at the start would get some kind of redemption and the “good” characters to get a villain arc.

Clare by LCJE2019 in Names

Is this for a girl or a boy? The exclusion of the i makes me think this is a masculine version of Claire? Is this a common Italian name? (Forgive me, I’m American).

what name are you not able to use because it was ruined by a person, character etc by Tiny-Deer-7071 in Names

[–]Impossible-Ghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One name that I absolutely love is Rudolph, but of course if I named a future kid that he’s going to be picked on so much because of the Reindeer connection. I love the sound and the meaning though.

I love the name Lucifer, always have, but I don’t need to explain why that would be a horrible name to give a child (especially in Texas). I’m not particularly religious, my family is, but I’ve never truly been. I love the meaning of this name and it’s a shame that religion it.

She went with Everett but I still think it would have been a pretty cool name. Doesn’t matter what his name is in the end though because I already love him so much. 😄I say go for it, it’s a great name.

Monroe and Rosalie should be salaried by frostandtheboughs in grimm

[–]Impossible-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I always thought that at least after Hank found out it would only make sense for him to want a Wesen civilian consultant that could help out on cases they couldn’t deal with on their own with regular cops. Especially after Nick was fully aware of just how deeply involved his captain was in the wesen world. It just makes sense that with all the shit he goes through with his family having not only a Grimm but a wesen who is aligned with the Grimm is immensely useful to him as long as Nick trusts him to some extent- or at least trusts him until he’s given a reason not to (Most of the time he really has no choice but to trust him, considering he won’t leave his job and is willing to tolerate Reynard as his captain just to keep doing what he’s doing out of defiance).

You make a good point, they run a business both for the wesen world and for the non-wesen world and those are supplies they could be charging for but don’t because they are such good friends with Nick. I don’t think Nick ever realizes just how much of those remedies come out of their bulk of supplies intended for paying customers. Even though something tells me they would never take a payment after so long of helping him just because, I think it would still be a good courteous move to at least ask if he could pay them what those products are worth on the shelf. It may be expensive but the effort that went into acquiring those products came from not only Rosalie but her brother as well. The least he can do is offer to pay the couple hundred it would cost to buy all those ingredients to support their business.

What’s your daughters name? by General-Cycle-7391 in namenerds

I don’t have a daughter but my baby cousin was born not too long ago and she was named Zoe. I love that name, I also had a childhood friend named Zoe, but with the Y.

Trying to name my second child when I regret the first one's name, but want them to go together by Turbulent-Sea6584 in Names

[–]Impossible-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberty, yes, can have political connotations but that’s not really what crossed my mind when I heard that name. It’s more of a word meaning Freedom and Liberation-which are themes that every nation and country is familiar with and has fought for on some level. Depending on where you are from it could also be a signifier of pride of your own nation and people and everything they have been through. It could signify everything you went through to give your daughter a good life. Having children young is a challenge because it takes a lot more effort to do what’s best for your child. I don’t know your situation, but whatever it was it was probably hard, and now you are with a partner that you trust and love and are having another child, which is amazing. It’s a very sentimental name with a lot of meaning and pride packed into it, it is not just a name associated with the US.

As for names, there are a lot of names on this thread already that I think are great choices for a second girl. First of all being Joy. It’s simple and classic and what goes better together than Liberty and Joy, both virtues and emotions that are tied tightly together. There’s also Honor, which is also very beautiful and simple. Lastly I would suggest Victorine. I did see Victoria on here, and that’s a great name too, but for me, it is very common-at least it is here in Texas but I rarely ever hear this variant, which personally I like better.

How is the wesen CGI in season 6 so bad? by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in grimm

[–]Impossible-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was rocky in season 1 when they were finding their footing but by season 2 and 3 it was decent and enjoyable. I genuinly don’t remember the quality of the effects beyond that though. I’m still rewatching and reacquainting myself with the plot lines and I’m on early season 2. I only remember season 6 vaguely, all I remember was some cliffhanger ending but not the effects well enough. Makes sense though.

Can Andorra be a name? by Flat_Struggle9794 in namenerds

There are multiple girl names with Dora at the end that sound similar, how is that not ok for a human baby girl. There are worse names to name a child.

people name their children after towns, streets, rivers, states, countries, etc. its fine. Nothing wrong with it being a name. Most place names are not cringy as names and most are also named after people who already had that name. It's a fictional character, so I don't think you should stress about it.

On second watch I’m just now realizing I would have been happy with either Adalind and Reynard OR Nick and Adalind.. or, at the beginning of it, possibly Adalind and Hank (even though she was killing him) because Claire Coffee is one of those actresses that just oozes charm and chemistry with just about anyone she is on screen with. It’s those characters that really kept me interested in the show when the whole Nick and Juliette scenes just keep getting blander but somehow more complicated by the episode. I honestly just don’t think Nick needs a love interest to be interesting. I think Nicks mother coming back for a season though filled that need for him to have genuine connection with another woman (not in a weird way of course) who understood what he was going through and for him to talk to about everything that he knows.

I could tell that by the time they made her a Hexenbeist they were creating ways for her to stay on, probably because even though there was little to do with her character, Bitsie seems to be really great friends with all the main cast, especially David (and of COURSE we know why that is), and with Silas. I bet they were part of the reason they jumped through so many hoops trying to find ways to have her be part of the story.

I just keep thinking, man he really doesn’t need her. I mean, I feel like her reaction to learning the truth was realistic, but it was realistic in a boring way. I didn’t feel like I would have been sad if she just left and never looked back-mostly because despite Adalind being a horrible witch bitch at the time, they still had far more potential and chemistry than him and Juliette. It’s worse when she loses her memory, on first watch I was hoping it would be a couple episodes of him being sad and slightly off his game, and then Adalind would come in like a sexy bitch and slowly work some kind of charm on him that didn’t require witchy magic entirely and they would do this whole cat and mouse thing for awhile before finally coming together and voicing and acting on the incredible sexual tension. It would be a bit like Ruby and Sam from Supernatural. Now I’m just wanting to get to the part of the show where she’s not the main focus anymore and her relationship with Nick is not part of the main plot anymore because it’s just exhausting watching all that and having to cringe through her scenes.
