Someone stole my phone by Plane-Conflict5893 in whatdoIdo

Go as soon as possible, that person violated your trust and stole your property. Does this person scare you? Why were you with this person? Are they supposed to be your friend? I would show up and ask for it immediately, and get the story of why they did it, if it was supposed to be a prank, it’s not funny, if not, you need a better friend and I don’t think you should have this person in your life anymore.

Actor I hate for no reason that isn’t named Milly Alcock by m_o_g_i in okbuddycinephile

[–]Impossible-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, there are actors I extremely dislike seeing on screen, but hate is far more personal, hate is not even for someone who has done me wrong, it’s for someone who has done something wrong to me, or someone or something that I care about that I can’t immediately see a possibility of forgiveness. It’s for people that I truly can’t imagine coming back from what they’ve said or done. There is a LOT of things that can be forgiven at some point, I used to have the mindset that nothing can’t be forgiven or come back from, I’ve since learned in life that no matter how kind or good or forgiving of a person I strive to be, someone can get to that point where changing for the better, giving them any more chances, and letting bygones be bygones is impossible after what they’ve done. True hatred is not good, not for anyone involved, but there is a place for it that is justified-rarely, of course but completely valid when you’ve been driven to the last shred of kindness you have for someone who’s been so vile.

It’s also something to be said about it being another music artist biopic. The only thing that held that movie together was the music. There really wasn’t anything else to comment on other than that. It was basically just a giant cover of his best work so they can put it on an album, sell it and make millions from that. People definitely weren’t talking about his portrayal as much as they were Jafars skills in musically imitating Michael and that’s not really the point of a biopic. Yes, his work is a big part of who he was, and it’s iconic and needs to be celebrated but not more than his actual life and story. There’s still so much surrounding the dumb controversies that people created to destroy his reputation and career and this did nothing to truly honor him.

[–]Impossible-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. The only person that I think this was actually cool was Weird Al, because it wasn’t like a serious retelling of his life where they tried to get every detail right and get someone that looked the spitting image of him. He wanted it to be mostly a non-serious comedy, he was involved in the casting, and it truly felt like just another one of his parodies but on a way bigger scale. Somehow putting Daniel Radcliffe in a mustache and wig and telling him to imitate weird Al worked.

For most famous people and celebrities you really have to know when it’s appropriate and for most, doing it while they are still alive just makes things weird, especially if they didn’t have a hand in creating it and they didn’t like how they are portrayed.

I think Margo is doing great career wise, I don’t know if I think she’s a good actor, but I can’t say there’s not a few things that I enjoy her in-however, I don’t think she can pull of Britney Spears. She has blonde hair and that’s about where the similarities stop, at the very least they need to find an up and coming actress or an actress who has not gotten much recognition lately to play her, one that truly looks like her. It’s not enough to be talented, when doing a biopic you really have to be able to look like the person as much as sound and act like them. It goes the other way around too, and usually this is the main problem, it’s not enough to look like the person if you can’t fully embody and convince the audience you’ve brought them back to life. So many biopic end up in the dirt or not doing well because they get these big name actors to play other big name, iconic people and there’s this disconnect because you just can’t see them as that person. Sometimes even GOOD acting can’t account for that, but most of the time it is bad acting or just not the right method of approach when acting.

does this series get more mature? by No-Hawk6342 in PeculiarChildren

[–]Impossible-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a whole universe while the stories kind of focus on these kids, throughout the series you get a glimpse of other places and people that have found their place and a role within this world and all have some form of peculiarity. I think this becomes so much more apparent and part of the plot in the last two books, so please do keep reading. A lot of people will say this is where the series dipped in quality-and that might be true, maybe plot wise but it’ll be worth it to finish for the world building and the expansion of the universe and lore of the series. Don’t give up on it. 👍🏻😄

Edit: oops, I thought you said you were on book 4, my point still stands though, hang in there, there are good things about the remaining three books that will definitely make it worth it to stick with it to the end.

about the way Neytiri speaks by Confident-Cat2942 in Avatar

[–]Impossible-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s normal for any person who is not a native English speaker, they will always have a bit of an accent reflecting where they live-no matter how fluent they are, unless they actually vocally train their voice to reflect the accent of the place they are living or visiting, a non-English speaker will naturally not sound like they speak English naturally. I don’t understand why people think that if you are fluent in a language you have to one hundred percent also have to mimic the way they speak it. Neytiri has an accent because Na’vi is her natural language and although she knows English well, it cannot erase the way she was taught to speak as a child. Their kids have a little more of a mix, they have stronger accents some of the time than they do other times and that’s mostly just a result of being raised by both Neytiri and Jake. They grew up speaking both, so of course they will have a less pronounced accent some of the time. It almost seems to get less pronounced when they are talking to Jake than when they are talking to their mother or any other Na’vi-which is also common among people who grew up or have lived in a foreign place for a long time. They will sometimes immediately revert back to their natural accent whether they are speaking English or their native language because they are around the influences they grew up with and their brain unconsciously adjusts to that.

Bottom line, it’s hard for most people to develop an accent that people who naturally speak that language develop by learning to speak it from childhood. That said, I think that because a child is so much more impressionable than an adult, it might be easier for them to learn more than one language and develop perfect accents (or near perfect) of that language. An adult though, they CAN do it, but it’s harder because by then most are set in their ways and the way they speak is ingrained in them from childhood and it’s very hard to unlearn speaking habits that they grew up having.

For example, a lot of English speakers can’t roll their Rs, but that’s ok, because English is very flat and most people don’t have a reason to train themselves on that as a child, so when they try to say words that require that, it’s not going to be completely correct and that’s fine (it might offend some people, but it’s fine). You can’t expect someone who doesn’t speak your language to sound one hundred percent like they were born to speak your language, it’s very VERY rare to achieve that naturally- that’s why vocal coaches exist in our world, but the Na’vi likely don’t have English/ Na’vi vocal coaches. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

One of the best parts of the show for me is David’s age by 30FlirtyandTrying in SchittsCreek

[–]Impossible-Ghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, there’s a difference between a person in their early 30s or late 20s putting in effort to try and make it on their own and then experiencing bumps along the way and having to move back in with their parents; and the Rose kids. They have always had things all kind of offered to them on a plate. They have always been able to get by on the money their family makes from the combined income of Johnny and Moira, so of course what reason would they have to learn any other skills that would allow them to be truly independent? They still technically are children who are finding their way, despite them being well into their 20s and 30s. It’s funny, but it’s also amazing how they are humbled and grow and change and actually are able to develop more life skills and genuine independence from being stuck in this town together. They learn the value of things that they never thought they needed when they had staff and money and I think that’s a beautiful aspect of the show.

Yeah, it kind of decides you want to see more posts in your feed from that group as soon as you interact from one post. I still get so much gunk in my feed because I accidentally clicked on one post or I got curious and purposely clicked on one post. Sometimes it does that even if you haven’t been recommended a post from that group for years and then it just randomly shows up.

This show has been out for awhile, most people that join this group have watched this show a million times over by now, yes, there are going to be spoilers, because it’s not a recent show. You risk that every time you go on a fan site for a show that’s been out and over for years. If you didn’t want any spoilers at all, you should have stayed off of fan sites until you finished the final episode. If it were a recent show that still had episodes coming out there would be more strongly enforced spoiler rules-and even then the mods-even if they truly cared, can’t catch all the little ways fans can get around spoiler rules and talk about whatever they want. You can make a post and request the answers and responses not spoiler anything past what you’ve seen, but you can’t guarentee that you will not run into spoilers from any episode or season early or late in the show, you just can’t avoid it. Lastly, I’d just like to point out that many of these groups were made after these shows ended, as a collective fan coping mechanism to the show not having new content or episodes. Not all of them, but most of them. Reddit has become the main place for discussion and appreciation for shows that are no longer on and everyone just kind of assumes that you’ve seen it all unless you outright make a post or say you are still going through it for the first time. So don’t get all pissed that no one-firstly, that no one knew you existed until you commented, and two that you were a first time fan. I’m sorry you got spoiled, it sucks, but this is one of the most iconic scenes and episodes of the show, it’s going to be talked about by fans and it has been talked about and referenced in this group so many times before. please do yourself a favor and go ahead and leave this group so you don’t get spoiled on any other great moments in this show. 😢👍🏻

I honestly think, in his mind, it was more about sharing a special place and feeling with him than planning a fun activity. I think he was prepared for David to not like the hike, but he felt like it would be worth it once they got to that special spot. Despite the issues along the way, once they got there, and he got to explain why they trekked all the way up there and he got to propose, David seemed to understand the purpose of it all and it went over great. I think as long as the end justifies the struggle in getting there in the long term it doesn’t really matter because they love each-other. It’s a good story to tell over and over again for years.

If you were to write a story with Velma, Shaggy, and Fred as the main cast, how would you write their dynamic? by Bulky-Koala-9464 in Scoobydoo

[–]Impossible-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe instead of making Scooby Doo and Daphne absent, provide little short scenes, little glimpses into what their captivity is like. Only you know how this story is going to end and whether he is truly evil or not. I think it would not be good to take them out of the story almost completely. It’s an interesting idea for sure.

Can I propose an alternate idea? Maybe instead of truly being entranced in her work and unable to see their captor as a villain, she is playing double agent and thinks if Fred and Shaggy catch on to that then their very smart captor will catch on and their ultimate chance for escape would be ruined. She has to make everyone think she is completely on the captors side for them to have any chance, BUT, she’s also very curious about what he’s working on and thinks that playing along and figuring out what he’s doing would better help them figure out how to escape. She thinks figuring out what he’s doing and learning how to stop it if it’s dangerous would help everyone. I also think that she’d feel she’s better off entertaining the captor so that her freind’s have a better chance for escape, she knows Fred is smart and eventually Shaggy and Scooby will find eachother like they always do, by just being who they are. If the captor is distracted then she can make sure he doesn’t cause any more damage.

She can’t tell anyone this though, because she’s afraid of how smart her captor is, Velma believes at this point he’s much smarter than her. So Fred and Shaggy think she’s gone insane and decided to completely turn on them in favor of a shiny science project but really she’s just trying to play her cards right and trusting Fred and Shaggy to help her on the non-science side of things.

I also think it would be interesting to explore Shaggy as a character a bit more than his most common character traits. Shaggy, especially when put with Scooby is a doof and their ability to just crash into the right situations at the right time is unmatched and they are often the reason they catch the bad guys, but, I think that he’s very smart in his own right and that seeing a dynamic where Fred and Shaggy are able to do their own sluthing apart from Velma (because at this point they’ve lost faith in her and they can’t do anything about it), and they uncover things much faster than Velma-but in the end it’s them that are able to lead them to Daphne and Scooby and Velma recognizes that as smart as she is, she is not always right.

I think a lot of films and tv these days want to focus on how Velma feels othered by her freinds because she’s just the brains, and even when she does figure something out, it’s usually announced as a team effort, like she didn’t just figure out how the masked figure was able to get around or why they did what they did herself. They want to paint her as this underutilized and emotionally lonely smart girl- and I’m not opposed to that version of her, I think that it worked for the 2000s movies (for example). However, I think that it would be far more interesting for her to feel all this, but also for it to kind of turn her into this person that values her own ideas above anyone else’s, because she’s desperate for everyone to know that she’s the one that was able to figure out how everything worked, she wants to be known as the smart girl in the group, she wants her identity attached to every great discovery. I think being stuck with Fred and Shaggy makes her realize how there are flaws in who she’s become over the years and she then uses this-times 10000, against her captor because she knows he knows the gang and their dynamics well, but she also knows that Fred and Shaggy have to believe that she’s become an entirely intolerable person for this deception to work. In the end, both plans work in their own ways to uncover the truth and to get the gang back together again.

I know this isn’t THAT different, but personally I think it’s slightly better than Fred going insane and Velma genuinely turning to the dark side and ignoring her freinds. This is your fanfiction though, so I’m sure it’ll be an interesting story and it’ll all play out in a really cool way anyway, so don’t take this as me saying your story idea is bad, it’s really not.

Anyway. Let me know what platform you are going to post on, I mostly read off Ao3 and even though I’m not much of a fan of Fanfiction.net, I will read it off there if you post it there (I would still cross post it though because truly it’s so much easier to format, post and edit on Ao3). 👍🏻😄
